This event is more of a P.I.T.A for veteran drivers. If I get stopped which I have, fine so be it. It's the 8 more stops that interfere with my job that bothered me most.

Well according to the bootlickers, the DOT is just here to help us and be our bestest safety buds ever.
Seriously, if someone does not understand that the relationship between drivers and DOT is adversarial, either (1) is ignorant, or (2) derives pleasure by sucking up to their betters in positions of authority.pigeon river trucking, insertnamehere, scottlav46 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Fixed it for ya! They are not our "betters"
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I agree with you. However, based on some of the comments above, it seems some people do see authority figures as their betters. Why else would someone step, fetch and cyber butt-kiss DOT on a drivers' forum?scottlav46 Thanks this.

@alghazi ..............It's just how the herd has been trained for the most part. Big jump from respectful interactions with leos and subservience. A lot of the new breed of leos prefer the latter.

KenworthyguyNH, I totally agree, there are more than a few bad apples. I think it's like truck drivers, the bad ones get all the press, but most of them are doing their jobs in a more or less reasonable manner. I tend to subtract the bad apples from good ones, figure how many will be around doing the blitz, and just drive business as usual. I think about what it would be like if we had on oversight or law enforcement, and I don't think it's a pretty picture. I hate to say I think we need enforcement, but I'm afraid our industry requires someone watching over us. Big Brother, but so many people need to be supervised.
My strategy is pretty simple: keep myself and my rig clean and legal, drive safely, obey speed laws, read signs, If I get knocked by one of the bad ones, and I really try to not give them incentive to stab me, then my number was up. If that happens, it's time to go buy some lottery tickets. I figure the percentages are with me.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I'll be working ... probably get a free check at Petro before 6/7 and a BB wash .... run more after 5pm and reduce my lotto chances
Dave_in_AZ and Getsinyourblood Thank this. -
DOT isn't our adversary. If you view them that way, that's on you. DOT officers are just doing their jobs as I hope you are. Are some of them ########? Of course, but so are some of us. I've seen plenty of drivers get attitudes with DOT, store clerks, other drivers, etc over things that were that driver's fault. It's not a matter of sucking up to anyone, it's a matter of pride in what I do. Am I perfect? Of course not, but I'm not going to blame someone else for something I did or didn't do. I believe in personal responsibility and it sounds like some of you need to grasp that concept.

Its where D.O.T. holds a special party (ticket writing party) Nationwide for all trucks. Usually all truckers are invited- (or required to attend). You might even get checked during it so make sure you have your papers together (Logs, Registrations, Fuel Permits, Trailer Registrations, Brakes Adjusted, etc, etc). I agree with Razor, they have a job to do just like everyone else.Last edited: Jun 3, 2016
