No worries, I certainly have my "senior moments" occasionally as well! ;)

I still have a long way to go to start making that money, but at least I've gotten the process started!

I am VERY impressed with how nice everyone has been on the phone, and, of course, with how helpful everyone has been on this thread.

I'm really looking forward to meeting the folks at the DC and hopefully all you guys at some point as well.

Thanks again to everyone on this thread for all of your time and advice!

If that is true about Walmart evaluate swift drivers .Where is the fairness of hiring other drivers that apply for the same job .

Walmart doesn't discriminate against Swift drivers. They will evaluate a Swift driver the same way they evaluate any other.

This is where a snag can develop: (or has developed in the past) If Walmart is utilizing the labor pool of another company (like Swift) they may have an agreement with that company that prevents them from stealing that companies labor. This agreement would only apply to specific drivers ASSIGNED to Walmart.

Nothing prevents you from applying at Walmart. If something disqualifies you from the job Walmart will tell you what it is.

I'm even more private than Kentucky. We've been advised to be careful about social media postings. I don't like this policy, but am realistic about the world we live in.

If a driver's start time is 10AM on the first day of his week does that stay the same for the remainder of the week?

No, that is just your first day, unless you have a dedicated route.

I don't know that it is necessarily "not as good of" a place to work, as it is just different. Publicly held companies have a fiduciary duty to their stockholders. As such, they have to change things to try to stay ahead of the game. Also political correctness and CYA plays into it a great deal. As in, many changes occur due to lawsuits against the company, and their trying to limit their exposure.

I think another thing you see with long term drivers is their resistance to change. As the Walmart fleet as a whole is older, you have a higher percentage of drivers who are getting closer to retirement. Those folks, as a whole, do not like change. Plus, as we get older, we have a tendency to forget the bad parts of our memories, and only focus on the good. For instance, you will hear drivers talking about how they used to get a lot of miles, before a lot of the DC's were built. Yet, you can still make very good money from a combination of miles and activity. Yes, it is "easier" (for some anyway), to sit and drive.................... so for them, the older high mile days was perfect.

I guess it is all in how you look at things.

Your next day starts a minimum of 10 hours after your current day ends, that is when you change status to off duty or sleeper. You may not run out your full 14, depending on what you do that day,so for example if you start at 10 am on day one and work till 10 pm ( 12 hrs) ,your second day could start at 8 am at the earliest the next day ( 10 HR break).

You are the captain of your own ship. Often times availability of places to sleep determines when you end your day. Some places have a lot of availability, and some definitely do not.

Everything you've said is true, and plays an important part of the drivers comparison of "before and now", but there are things we've had in the past that we do not have now. Things that have been lost. The company was publically traded back then too. Those who have been here long enough can accurately compare the difference, and most will tell you it's not as good as it once was.

To be fair there are things we've gained too. Walmart once said they would never buy conventional tractors. Today there are very few, if any, who have to climb over a doghouse to get into the sleeper.

Change is inevitable. Some of it will be good, and some of it will not. I think the best we can do is to take the good with the bad and make the best of it.
