Which Training Companies Run to Maine

I'll graduate from NTI this August 7th from the Hermon, Maine campus. The 80 hours of classroom was decent, awesome instructor learned a lot. BUT the 160 hours driving part of the school is pitifull! Old equipment, nothing like trying to ally dock and parallel park with a messed up steering box and this is the truck we test in, what made the driving and learning part enjoyable even with the lack of equipment are the two instructors, they are fantastic. As of this week they did bring in the old Mack to the shop to fix up the steering box. That now leaves us one yard truck for six students to practice with for our last week. And to top it off, I guess our class is really lucky, we have to wait almost three weeks to the day after graduation for our test date, so that will have us all rested up with no driving time. We should all be right on top of our game come test day.
If you decide to go to NTI Do your own job searching homework, they will tell you that there will be all sorts of recruters coming into class and that there are all kinds of driving jobs, we had two recruters and Werner was one of them. I guess if I had to do it again I'd go with a reputable company that schools and trains you, even if you do it for six months to a year.

I have signed up for the Aug 18th full time course at the NTI in scarborough, maine. I have looked around on other boards and haven't found much other than good things about them. I will let you know how the scarborough school is after I complete the course.

 

I know a Central Refregerated driver from Maine. He went to there school in NY. Over a year ago, still with them I think, but I doubt he gets on here.
They do hire from there though, at least some.

 

I graduated NTI quite a while ago. I went to the Scarborough campus. I did enjoy my time there, and learned a great deal. It is a great school to get you started in trucking. I will say be careful of the recruiters that go there. Shortly after graduation, I was signed up to go with US Xpress. I had given my notice at my other job of 6 years and was excited to be trying something new. A day before I was to leave for training, US Xpress called and thanked me for my interest, but decided not to hire drivers from Maine. This really bummed me out. I had left my other job, and now was unemployed. Just be careful of what the recruiters promise. Maine can be a difficult state to find trucking jobs, but they are out there. You just have to take some time and look. Best wishes to all who are starting out. Trucking isn't the perfect job by ant means, but I love it. There is no other job out there quite like it!

It is cool there are so many from Maine, and I knowl that there are a lot of great drivers from our state of Maine. We have the back country roads, logging roads, secondary roads, highways, small towns, cities that were designed for horse and buggy not an 18 wheeler, the tourist areas, frost heaves, ice, snow and freezing rain. So a Maine driver gets it all in one state, so he or she better be a good driver or pretty darn lucky to make it in this profession. I've finished school now and am waiting for the 20th to take my state driving test and look forward to a future driving.

Thanks and I appreciate your wanting to know more about us Mainers. I will keep you informed as to what's going on. I've only had one offer, and that was from Portland Air Freight. I was asked to contact them as soon as I receive my license which should be this Wednesday, if the parrallel parking gods are with me. I get wicked nervous at tests, jack, chase, push the box in, straighten out. I will let you know what happens this coming week!

 

I was hired by Werner. I hope to get my own truck in a couple of weeks. we will see how their home time works. I live in south portland, maine. I dont really want to be gone 3-4 weeks at a time, but if that is what they need, I will do it.
