We don't do the "rebid" thing here, thankfully. That only happens a run frees up or is created, and all drivers are treated equal.
Here, linehaul vs P+D only matters in that sense for extra runs.
Sometimes, if there were extra runs to other terminals to be done over a weekend, they'd find city drivers to do the terminal runs because they'd get the freight back sooner, while linehaul guys got the relays.
A few people must have gotten together and complained, because now city guys aren't offered those terminal runs anymore. Anything extra now runs on sunday night after one of the night guys had his restart, which has a tendency to cause problems on monday morning. -
Just wondering, did you go back to P&D? And did you retain your seniority, or drop at the bottom of the list? I know them COMBO P&D drivers make ridiculous money, maybe apply for that if it's available.
-
Any company that revokes your seniority for that isn't one I want to work for.Sho Nuff Thanks this.

P&D, Linehaul and dockworkers have seperate timecards, so if you lose a spot due to a bidding process, I would imagine it would put you back at where you were originally. Not 100% sure on that. I would think it would piss off junior guys on the seniority list if someone moved to a different position and came back to go right above them again. It all depends on how the bidding process works.
-
Here at my company, seniority is only counted from date of hire, regardless of classification. The oniy time classification matters is for weekend work.
A linehaul driver here won't lose his seniority if he signs up for a city run, and shouldn't. It's just simpler that way.Bob Dobalina and Sho Nuff Thank this. -
Yeah I agree, but union jobs is all about seniority, and usually if you leave a position for anouther, and you wind up coming back for whatever reason, you drop to the bottom of the list. Unless they have it the bidding process that you're allowed to crossover with no consequences. Some union jobs, if you leave a position, you can NEVER come back.
-
Yes, i did go back to city. No i did not lose any seniority. i am still not sure how the senority works if you transfer over to road though. Will comment further when there is more time.
-
Whether you lose seniority or not is dependent on your hub/local.
Sometimes linehaul and p&d from the same barn are split up in two completely different locals.
So the one local won't let a guy from another local come right in and bump guys down. -
Great info Russian Rabbit !
What is the various start times for line haul & P&D there ?
How does the pension thing workout there as you accumulate years ?
