This may be a silly question but I've never hauled them before....and figured it better to ask and secure it safely.
I'm grabbing a load of 7 tires (10 ft wide) tomorrow and just wondering is there a special way to strap them?
Should a guy use two straps and criss-cross them....or just strap straight over to the other side.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have criss-crossed them and had no problems. I may of added 1 strap straight across on the back stack just to be sure.
skman Thanks this. -
I've done them straight across on a trailer with fixed winches that made x strapping difficult or impossible. It works ok so long as the straps sit in the treads where they can't move and come loose.
X strapping is good too. -
Ok. Yeah I've got fixed winches and I was just thinking how I was going to make it work but at 10 ft diameter....I'd probably be able to cross them...I think.

If the tread is large enough to hold the straps you could just strap straight and call it good
Whatever you want to do, as long as your straps stay in place it should be good.skman Thanks this. -
I've done them on my step once. I criss crossed the first 3 tires using my step as a bulkhead,.. then criss crossed the last one with a 3rd single across the middle,.. side to side. Over kill probably,.. but not having done them before and not wanting to have any problems I felt that was the safest way.
Looking for a picture of that load now. Not sure if I have it with me here on my laptop,.. I think that one might be on my home computer.

With the smaller ones I use 3 straps per set. One straight across the center the other two criss crossed. The bigger ones will be 4 on bottom and 3 on top centered where two tires meet below. I'll try to illustrate
x x x
__x______x______x_____x___
X represents the center of the tire.
The way I did the 11 wides was to put one strap straight across before and after the center line of each lower level and the criss cross the top level -
my little drawing is not showing up correctly the X at the top are supposed to be in different locations. I can't find my 11 wide pics but here are the smaller ones
Here's how it should lookskman Thanks this. -
Thanks. I like the idea of strapping straight across (before and after) the center and then criss cross on top.
I'll have to look at that tomorrow at the shippers because I'm kind of at the mercy of my fixed winches on the trailer. -
Well if that doesn't work I have another way. This picture is the very first time I did them so I just did it on the fly and then changed the technique for the times after that. All in all as long as you secure them as close to the widest point of the tire as possible you should be good. Good luck
x1Heavy Thanks this.
