Landstar vs Schneider Choice ( Comparison )

Can anyone running leased to Landstar give a ballpark what rates are now a days from California to east coast?

They can't figure out 2/3 of $2.10 LH rate instantly without going to the calculator and doing a "buncha math". After the 'buncha math' is done , they call the agent and the load is gone. Rinse and repeat.

 

Seems like LS won't you to fail.

 

Nah, they are just a middleman. You run your business the way you want. Nobody cares if the way you do things is profitable or not, that's on you. The down cycle of trucking typically weeds out those that never should of bought a truck.
Being at least decent at math ( I'd say 85% of drivers pulling a Landstar van are bad at math, there are some dedicated drop and hooks that pay well ), sales and marketing, and analysis are prerequisites to being successful in this industry.

 

Well if the company knows most are bad at math. Why not post the rate already broken down?

 

Because there are a lot of different contracts and ways to get paid, even within the same subcontractor. If one of your trucks has its own trailer and one doesn't, which rate is which? If one o/o is bragging he made 5k but you only made 4500. A lot of new LS drivers are unaware there are different contacts. I get an extra 1% for every axle over 5, whether or not I'm using it. Unfortunately, Landstar is not a technological savvy company. Last year, they finally made the load board work 100% with a browser other than IE. You should have seen their attempt at an app!
Anyways, it's also a marketing tool to make people think they're making more. On of these van guys likes to think he's making 2.00 vs 1.30.

 

They can show a flat rate with or without a trl.

 

No they can’t as there is not one rate for everyone.

The percentage split with or without a trailer has changed over the years so there is no one rate to post. Those who signed on with older contracts get a better percentage then newer contracts have.

How about people take some personal reasonability and know what percentage they sign on to get and use a calculator?
