I love my '92 beater. Never getting rid of it. Try not having any car payments and insurance only being $30/month and tell me why I need anything newer ;)

It is every Americans right to believe they are underpaid and overworked. You have the right to ask for an increase anytime. They have the right to fire you at anytime.

Being paid by the hour you are probably being paid overtime for over 40. You are also most likely home every night. Don't forget the benefits that you receive from Coke, that adds up. Also they are paying you 7 and a half percent on top of that for Social Security.

Bottom line, you work a lot less then the guys at McDonalds and you make a lot more.

$18-20/hr is about all you'll get as a new guy driving local. Not a bad start if there's a little OT involved.

Broke people driving expensive cars is a popular reoccurring theme. I know because I used to be that idiot up until a couple years ago. Cars are a notoriously poor indicator of affluence...anybody with a paycheck and mediocre credit can roll off in something flashy they can't really afford.

If you got a Teamster job right out of school at that rate, you just hit the long-term lotto. RUN to take it.

Pay, especially on hourly, is relative. I wouldn't accept $18 an hour, even as a newbie, running NYC, but I would have no problem if running Iowa. I can buy a ranch style home sitting on 2.25 acres of rural land with tool shop and other out buildings in Iowa for less than someone in NYC, Chicago, LA, etc can buy a basic, small family home on 1/8th acre. And my utilities are cheaper also. Property taxes are chump change for me compared to high density areas of the country. My property tax bill for the ranch home, 3 out buildings, 2.25 acres of land is about $1800. Try that in a major city! Everything is relative. $100K a year is chump change in some areas of the country. In other areas, you would be doing very well.

my question was going to be - what part of the country are you in? $20 is about the norm around here for starting out hourly. if I were in nyc or ca I'd expect much more because of the aforementioned reason: cost of living.

and to comment on the car: poor indicator. my 97 jeep Cherokee with 286k miles on it says I don't make any money? good, keep it moving and leave me alone.
