Wild times in the Navy when I was in. Now they sometimes do breathalyzer when sailors come back aboard ship and if positive they must go to sick bay and the journey begins.
Back then they thought there was something wrong with us if we weren't boozed up. Our XO was a warrant officer; one time he was in charge of R&R in Hong Kong and spent the recreation money alloted to us on booze and massage girls. 3 days of booze, hotel rooms, massage girls and all free for the enlisted guys. Being the XO and the only one of us with a Purple Heart, no one messed with his decisions.
That stuff would never happen today in the PC military.

They're changing their constitution so they can build an offensive military and the USA is the main country pressing for this change. The big problem is their tax base is shrinking by the hour due to an aging population dying and practically zero birthrate. They can't pay for the new military because they can't pay for it. They don't allow immigration to anyone that doesn't have Japanese blood. There's discussions now about letting highly educated Chinese immigrate because they now admit the Chinese race is closest to the Japanese race of all the people on earth. Japanese women don't want to breed with Japanese men because they say the men are like zombies, are boring, and not interested in sex; only interested in child like chatter and playing with video games and computers.
Japan now has special bars and massage parlors for women to visit to meet men for a short time. It's a sick country slowly withering away.

 

My year at Camp Fuji below Mt.Fuji was an active one and I learned Japanese women will do anything to come back to the states for a free ride.

I was in my early twenties and indulged in alcohol so frequently, that I never would have thought the country was falling apart. I only saw the small pictures and knew only what I was told.

 

Did they still have the hotsie bath houses when you were there? Not the family style, but the ones where sailors and other low class people would visit...lol

 

I never saw any of them. Maybe some underground stuff still exists today. Its not known though.

 

Hong Kong and Philippines is just as wild now as ever.
I enjoy the Asian news sites; that's where I learned about Japan's new military.

Too bad Japan wouldn't let me immigrate, I'd love to see that country someday.

Just to add to the original topic, I once called (what's currently left of,) the space program "America's most expensive job's program".

The problem is, to become an astronaut, you need certain job experience, millions of dollars of specialized training, for what, 30-odd positions? (back when the shuttle still flew) and then what? It's not like there are other places looking to hire shuttle pilots. It's the very definition of a (highly paid, very prestiegous, but ultimately) dead end job.
