I've driven a truck in this man's oilfield for 12 years and not once been an otr driver. I got hired with no schooling just took the tests and borrowed my uncle's truck for the driving test. It's been a decent career until recently. I've had many nights that I've slept beside a pumpjack listening to the crew trucks. This job ain't for the weak at heart. It's long hours, dirty thankless work. It's just what type of beer you wanna drink. Wanna stay local, live in West Texas, you go oilfield. Wanna stay out of the field and still drive a truck, you do otr. The way I look at driving is driving. Hell I'm seriously considering doing otr with the way the price of oil is.

Why in the world would you revive a 3 year old thread to post something that is completely irrelevant to the topic?
It's not...and take it from a guy who just ended that 7 month mistake. Don't go otr. You'll hate it.oft driver Thanks this. -

What sucked about it? Minus home time and the obvious. Only reason I ask depends on who calls the white house home, none of us might be working. -

We don't all hate OTR; some of us wouldn't have it any other way. I'd rather be running coast to coast and looking at the country than stuck in an oilfield. Job satisfaction. -

I respect that. It seems, from what you've posted, you got your stuff together. My question is.. can an oilfield driver make it otr? Not driving abilities, I've done some things I know I can drive..... but if push comes to shove... is it feasible or is the mountain to big to climb. Because honestly I'm really investigating otr as a viable option right now
