Something just hit me, and I think I remember having this conversation one time at UPSF, and I think the bidding process is run exactly the way @MACK E-6 explained it at his place of work. Seniority is based off date of hire. Even though P&D and Linehaul have seperate time cards, when it's their turn to bid on a run, they can simply choose P&D or Linehaul. P&D drivers just tend to stick with P&D while Linehaul drivers tend to stick with Linehaul. It's probably the reason why you didn't lose your seniority when you switched over. Not a 100% sure on this, but I think this is how it works.

What about asking your TM or shop steward, or assistant shop steward (don't know if you have one of those, we did) since they're involved in the bidding process.
I'm not sure if this rule applies to other hubs, since each hub seems have variations on job duties, but where I worked at, Linehaul drivers were required to do P&D as well when they came back IF THEY ARE NEEDED. -
We had to do that here, at least back when I ran nights 10 years ago.
It's a major kick in the head to run all night, hoping to be able to hit the hay before the sun comes up too far, only to be told to go somewhere and sort and segregate for 4 hours.

It's kind of weird how people who get into LTL or UPS looking for the BIG BUCKS don't actually want to DO IT when the opportunity arises. A lot of those Linehaul guys just simply had to say "I'm not feeling good" and got out of it. That's where the COMBO city/dock drivers came in, but that position was always available as well, because nobody wanted to work 12-14 hours a day on the P&D side as well. The money is there, but NOBODY wants it. Who figures.

It is. Been there, done that a few times.
Then, by the time you finally get home, it's high noon and you're supposed fo be going to bed. You'll be lucky if you get two hours of sleep before you have to go back to work. -
Without getting into detail, none of those three avenues are available to ask right now. Not for bad reasons either. Rest assured i will get to the bottom of it all.

Now I know this was brought up in your other thread, but since were talking all things UPSF, I figure I might as well bring it back up on THIS thread just for information sakes. Now as far as I remember for work attire and appearance, UPSF employees are allowed to keep a beard, unlike Parcel, because Overnight employees did not have to abide by the no facial hair policy when they transitioned over as a UPSF employee. The shirt was grayish in color, had to be tucked in (although many didn't abide by this policy as well), pants were brown, shoes had to be black and steel tipped, and you had to wear your ID badge at all times. The ONLY times you didn't have to wear the uniform is when you worked on the docks. Many of the Combo drivers did anyway so they didn't have to change when switching over.

IM pretty sure UPSF drivers have to shave also. Don't know about uniforms.
