Have you not read the chronicles and adventures of @freightwipper . He has posted his hate for Crete freight shakers. Maybe you should consult him on any future truck purchases.

I think somebody may be talking about @jdrentzjr that avatar sounded familiar.

Also don't buy any poly trucks.

Even if it's there sticker doesn't prove they put filter on. Could have been a vender.

When you buy it as is it is on you.

    Can you sue?
    Sure.
Will you win? I doubt it but crazier stuff has happened.

One must take extraordinary care when buying used. You've got to have it checked out independently by someone of your choosing. Seller doesn't like it? Look elsewhere...there are thousands of trucks available.

But it's on you. Very expensive lesson.

Sorry for your bad experience but if it was the wrong oil filter that was installed, did you ever notice maybe oil pressure was low when the engine was running or something like that? Not saying anything is your fault but if the wrong oil filter blew up the motor, there had to be some sort of sign something wasn't right when looking at the oil pressure guage.

The only state that has lemon laws for trucks is WISCONSIN.

I will take the other road. You can sue and you might have a case. Anytime you buy something there is an implied warranty. You did not buy this truck from John Doe who may or may not have do the proper maintenance, you bought it from a professional trucking company who is suppose to do the maintenance on a professional level. One would be perfectly correct in assuming that they would have put the correct oil filter on the truck. They should have done so. Your case would be that their negligence caused the truck to be sold in a matter that made the truck break down.
