I just dont know what your saying. each time you use the 8hr you only regain the time you had left on you 11hr. example: drive 7 hrs. no on duty not driving. sit at warehouse for 5hrs. stay for 3 more hrs to equal 8hrs. you now regained the 4 hrs you had left of the 11hr. drive 4hrs then you have to take a 10hr to reset the 14hr.

You don't have to take a 10. You can take a 2 hour off-duty/sleeper break and you get back all the time before the end of the hour break you took at the shipper . And you didn't regain those 4 hours you had left. You had them the entire time. The 8 hour break simply didn't count against your 14 hour clock so those 4 hours of drive time carried through and you still have 4 on your 11 and 7 on your 14.

What I'm saying is, at the end of those 8 hour SB breaks (not counting the very first one) I get back more than I was expecting.

From my example, break #2 started the 8 with less than 3 hours, I get back almost 5. Break #3 started with under 2 hours and I got back 8 and a half.

I'd like to know how this is figured. I doubt I will need/want to split my breaks like this very often but I'd like to know what I'm going to have to work with at the end of the 8 hours.

I dont understand where you are getting the extra hours from unless you are doing this over a course of a few days and you are including recap hrs. those hrs only work for your 70hr. have nothing to do with your 14 hr. bottom line: 11 hrs driving, 3 hrs on duty not driving 14 hrs on duty in a 24 hr period, 70 hrs in 8 day. 10 hr break to reset 14 hr, 34 hr break to reset 70. 15 min. pre trip, 15 min post trip, 30 min. manditory break in a 8 hr on duty. stick to that then you wont have any problem. try to play with the numbers and all you are doing is asking for trouble. way make it more difficult then it needs to be. i think FMCSA made it difficult enough.

The 8-hour break also counts as an "at least 2-hour break". So you can drive 5.5 hours, sb 8, drive 5.5, sb 8, drive 5.5 indefinitely.

However, Big Road elogs does not do this correctly and I've been unsuccessful in getting them to fix their bug.

So is the time from the 2 added into what you have at the start of the 8?

Correct. Both parts of the 8/2 combine to form the "equivalent of a 10-hour break."

Multiple confusions going on here. You said you went home, that's line 1 off duty, not line 2 sleeper.

@JAYRODPA , you're adding lots more confusion. A 10 hour break is not required, but it does reset everything and if that helps you then that's great, but it's not required.

Search around on here and you will find examples of split sleeper logging with pictures. The easiest was already given, what did you have left before you started your 8? How many hours were used before your 2? Add those up and it should equal available time.

Once you take an 8 hour sleeper break, your clock is figured from the last 2+ hour break you took.

Say you spend 2 hours off duty waiting on a load then spend 1 hour on duty not driving and 4 hours driving then go in the sleeper for an 8. When you come out of the sleeper, your time is figured from the end of the 2 you took earlier that day.

So you used up 4 hours drive time and 5 hours of your 14 after taking the 2. That leaves you 7 hours drive time and 9 hours on duty time.

Say you drive for 7 hours then take another 8 in the sleeper.

Your hours are figured from the end of your previous 8 sleeper break. So you now have 4 hours drive time and 7 hours on duty time.

You can keep going like this forever.
