Just curious what options are available out there for mirrors for wide loads. My brother and I are setting up several trucks to haul oversize and I know there are some like the mobile home toters have but those are not an option in this case because they are brand new lease trucks. Peterbilt 579. Any suggestions on what would work? The factory mirrors are attached to the door with one plastic arm at the bottom so I am concerned about getting too much weight on there if we go with something that attaches to the factory mirror. It also needs to be something very functional because they will be doing multiple loads per day so they will be used a lot. Thanks for any helpful suggestions!

Murray Trailer makes some nice mirror extensions, but I don't know how one would mount them on the 579 mirrors. They are ideal for the older style mirror brackets.07shaker Thanks this.

I will bet Murray or Cozad have some to fit the new trucks. I have a set in my shop for a 359/379. @Oxbow Need a set???

I have a set that I got from Murray @truckdad, but thanks. -
There is a company that makes wide load mirrors for pickups, maybe 16 ft wide. I bet you could make or have them make the brackets to fit on the fire wall of your truck. It is at least worth a look. Google: "The Trailer Shoppe"
Oxbow Thanks this. -
How about something like this?

Kinda ugly, but it certainly looks functional if it is stout enough not to vibrate too much.

Not very pretty but that idea would work. I need something that extends farther to be able to haul 16-17 ft wide loads. Maybe I need to take that idea to a fabricator and have something made out of stainless square tubing. Thanks for the help!

@catalinaflyer had a set on a T680 Kenworth he might be able to give you some insight.

Those extensions made from the small round tubing will only work out to about 11-12 wide at most. They are just to light weight to be stable any wider. You can add pieces to make them wider but they will vibrate so bad they are useless. Get a hard gust of wind or some small tree branches etc. and they'll just bend/kink and become junk.
I will look when I get to the office and see if I can find pictures of the extensions we made for the 680's. They were fabricated from steel plate and 1" square tubing with smaller square to fit inside and bolts to tighten against it to hold it. With just the mirror pieces I could go 13' wide and with the extension tubes out to 18' wide. Beyond that you need 2 pilots anyway so your paying that person behind you $1.65 a mile to be your mirror extensions anyway.Oxbow and skootertrashr6 Thank this.
