Once you've started your fourteen hours it doesn't matter if you go off duty your clock keeps ticking

That's the way it works, but I'm not conserving more of my 70 than I need to.

I will go off duty only if I'm on my own personal time.Anything that involves my job at Wal-Mart ,I'm on duty.If they want me sit in dock for groceries, live loads or washing my truck (for free) it's on duty.

Well I got my call this am for a Spring Valley, IL position. It was my 2nd application, 1st was Beaverdam, WI. My interview via phone is tomorrow. If anybody has any words of wisdom, I'd be grateful, or any info on Spring Valley would be welcome. Let the nervousness begin.

The phone interview is just basically questions about what makes you a safe driver, how your previous employers would describe you. The questions I remember was " you have a run of 100 miles, how many hours would you log it in?", " What do you do when backing?". On the hours round up, and the backing make sure you say " get out and look". Just relax, and Good Luck!

Thanks, yeah I'm pretty confident about the phone interview, have zero accidents and zero violations in my 25yrs of driving. Very good relationship with all my past employers, I hate to leave my current one, but like I told him, he's 68 and he's admitted he's gonna be retiring in the next couple of years. I told him up front I was applying at Wal-Mart and he actually is pulling for me to get hired. It's a great opportunity for my family, so I feel a bit of pressure in that regard.

My answer to the 100 mile question would be however long it would take to do safely. Traffic, weather, speed limits are just a few variables.

Being off duty unloading groceries is a big no no in our region. Unless it's your last stop where your not required to be in the store.

Passed my phone interview today. Next is waiting for a call from Spring Valley to set up "the big day." My family and I cannot thank everyone on here enough for the time you take out to help a fellow driver try to better his life. I will pass on the good will shown to me ten fold. I will definitely brush up on my pre-trip, and will re-read this blog a few more times to prepare myself. Thanks again
