I can imagine it would be difficult- the more layers the darker the color?
Summit sells a close color to this blue and they say a grey base coat is needed before spraying the blue. I hope grey primer is close enough. Luckily we're just looking to redo the lower exhaust mounts where the pipes attach to the side of cab. The paint is flaking off them and they are getting rusty.
The boss man ran a bead of silicone around the brackets on our new 389 in hopes of keeping the salt & water out when the paint cracks in that joint, so far they've held up well.
Went and done it

These are all Detroit 12.7s right?....anybody get the 6NZ from Thomson?
-
My 2 gliders are the Detroits, my 99 Pete has a cat. Fitzgerald wants $20,000 more for the 6nz Cat.
If I were buying one for myself to drive maybe, but I am putting drivers in these. Where and what we run the Detroit does a great job, no complaints whatsoever. I personally just like having the Cat myself.
On another note, spent the weekend under the 99, lost low range in Houston and had to limp home.tore into the tranny and found that the slip ring on the rod ( don't know the technical terms) that moves the synchronizer from low to high had come off. So a 50 cent part cost me a load home and a weekend. Guess it could have been worse if I would have lost the high side I would have been stuck and paying someone else to fix it.
While I had that apart went ahead and replaced shift tower and isolation bushing. Also ran the overhead and replaced all the hood bushings. Just tightening things up again.Orange713 Thanks this. -
Now to find a driver, the one I thought I had lined up was supposed to have a clean record, ha- he had 3 pages of violations. The search is on.

You must have an fro transmission. I have replaced many shift rail snap rings. If you have it happen again be sure to check the synchronizer and the bull gear in the back of the auxiliary case. If either accumulate much wear the snap ring will hit the case and cause premature failure.

That's a gorgeous truck, I think I would keep that one for myself.

Hopefully next year I will be able to get myself one. I will have to be able to pay cash though. I don't want a payment on the one I drive.redoctober83, Oscar the KW and RERM Thank this.
