Wondering which size and type of tarps to buy as an initial purchase. I know over the long term, I'll have a full compliment. But what do you think would be the minimum to start, and have a good level of capability to haul most loads?

8 ft drops. I've had brokers tell me it can be hard to find trucks with them. With 8 ft you can cover any load. I've even used them on stuff less then 1 ft tall. It sucks but it works.

Also I liked my 3 piece set. Most of the time I only needed the 2 ends and used the middle for coils.

Thanks. Does the term "8 ft. drop" mean: a tarp that can cover an 8 ft. high load? Or, does it mean the tarp has flaps on the ends?

8 ft drops means it can cover an 8 foot tall load. I'm not sure what the dimensions were but 3 of them would cover a 48 foot long load with about a foot of over lap. They are also called lumber tarps. The two ends have flaps to fold over for the front and back of the load.

I highly recommend getting moving blankets while you're at it. 4 to 8 of the to cover sharp edges. Otherwise you'll spend your off time patching tarps. The hard free way is to ask movers for old tarps. The easy way is to buy them at harbor freight for about 8 bucks each.

Are those light weight tarps good? I think TMC uses them.

Thanks. I'm thinking 2, 6ft drop lumber tarps will cover over 90% of the freight out there.

I really liked them the time I had to haul them up a ladder on my shoulder. They tear easier though. Even pipe has to be covered to keep from tearing them.
