Watch the video on post #5562. I passed the pre-trip and road test yesterday and the video was a BIG help. Remember you only have 30 minutes, so practice, practice practice. I did perfect on the truck but forgot the registration, side reflective tape and the pins on the axle slide on the trailer. Don't be at all afraid to ask questions. The Saftey guy that tested me ( there was actually 2 guys one was in training to give pre- trips and road test) told me they knew each truck was a little different and if you couldn't find something ask. Things you cannot miss: fire extinguisher, Saftey triangles, permit book, and VIR book. Make sure you know how to do a brake leak test just like the dude in the video. Best of luck and try to keep cool!

Congratulations and thank you for the heads up. Bet you had a huge sense of relief after making it thru the big day.

Amen on that!

The Safety guys giving me the test told me one very important piece of info I have not seen here ( I read all 550 pages twice, yup I did). Because you have 18 wheels and tires you do not need to go into detail on every one. Just do a thorough job on one of the steering tires/wheels/ brakes and with the rest just make sure you are looking at them.

Yeah that's what that video says, you're not doing a pre-trip, you're showing you know how to do one. The truck isn't being tested, you are. My question is, did you crawl under and physically pull on the slack adjusters, or just one on the steer tires? Same with air pressure, do you manually check it, or just say you'd check for air pressure?

I'm being told I can't get an extension in Pennsylvania say cause it's federal I did it March 24 still hasn't went thru only have till July 7th what's dps?
-
No you do not have to
Keep in mind the guy in the video is demonstrating a Pre-trip test. Wal-Matt wants you to do a complete pre-trip on the truck and trailer. Those 2 things are different. No you do not have to yank the slack adjusters or check the tire pressure with a gauge. I brought my own tire thumper and gloves. If you don't bring your own they will provide them. The only time I got on the ground was to check the trailer tandem slide hoses. -
DPS is Texas Department of Public Safety. It is the state police, which also handle driver licensing.
Pennsylvania is one of the 9 states that choose to get involved with this process by handling the application and fingerprinting process. What has Pennsylvania told you as to why your application has yet to be processed after nearly 90 days? Have you contacted the TSA directly to see what the status of your background check is?
Do not sit back and expect the government to do their job. You have to chase these people down and even contact their supervisors and above if necessary! Your livelihood depends on this being resolved.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 26, 2016

Thank you, that answered many questions for me. I was wondering how that would pass for a truck you're about to take on the road.
