Laredo is rough. A few years ago you could bounce to Houston for pipe but tiday the rates on what little pipe is shipping are crappy. To be honest, id pull out of Laredo for 1.50 on the right load, light no tarp easy load going to a good area like ky or ohio. But is also have only gone in there for a big rate. I've just always viewed loads to bad areas like west and south texas as round trips. Get the money going in cause you certainly won't get it going out.
Hate the rate

I run down there weekly and have a couple of our own hauls but they are slow too.
Came out today ata 1.83 to Kansas city where we have freight .
Everything else was to the northwest for mediocre rates . -
This week so far:
IL to IN 700$
IN to AR 1800$
OK to IL 1650$
Left on monday afternoon, should be back thursday afternoon. 1800 miles and im ready to pu something on friday. Not bad for dry van i think.Big_D409, bzinger and nonsense007 Thank this. -
I run an average of 500 miles a day @ $2 per mile ( average ), and home on the weekends ( or better yet I get 2 days off every week for my 34 hour reset at home ), after fuel and insurance, I net around $3500, not including the bonuses I sometimes get when I run extra stuff ( urgent stuff ). Keep in mind this is dry freight, I have my own dry van, truck and trailer all paid for

I'm sure there are people out there making more with reefer, flatbed, step deck, or oversize. But, I'm not competing with anyone, just stating what I do.

Like I said before once you establish a lane you like running from point A to B then back A, find customers on that route, and just run with them. It beats chasing freight or negotiating rates all the time, too much work.

See Folks............
This example (If its true,of course) Is the "difference" in making a reasonable weekly salary after expenses.
As opposed to working with brokers where it would be $2700-$3600 per week Gross- Then $1800-$2400 per week after Fuel-tolls etc...
See the Difference People??
I don't want you guys Wondering "Why" I constantly Insist on finding your Own Customers..
You'll Live Better!!! (Health and happiness)
If this example is True and Not Bloated by nonsense...It should make you people want to Choke The Freight Brokers.gokiddogo, bzinger, nonsense007 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I could post my bank statements to prove to you all that it is possible, ( let me figure out how ), so you all can see how much is deposited each week in my business account, you'll also see my fuel expenses, Prepass, Bestpass, truck and trailer maintence ( try to do all maintence during the 2 days I'm at home, to keep truck and trailer in good condition ) and insurance.
I don't do factoring, cause my customers pay me with ACH deposit. And I constantly maintain a 6 figure balance in my business checking account, which I've built in a 2 year period.Big_D409 and stayinback Thank this. -
The Kenworth body is made out of aluminum and the Volvo body is made out of steel.
The Volvo 770 and 880 have twice as much storage space inside as the Kenworthbzinger Thanks this. -
But it all comes down to.........
whoopNride Thanks this. -
I look at it more like my Volvo would talk 65 miles but I could only get a Peterbilt to talk a little over half that distance
