Ever had somewhere you couldn't get to?

I passed a few mounties heading opposite direction when I was loaded with paper rolls grossing 77K or so on those roads. None ever stopped me. Was the only way to get from A to B unless take a 400 mile detour.

 

My first time driving 278 beltway in NYC. I went under a bridge that said "13'2". Next bridge i saw said "13'4" and a big sign that says all trucks 13'6 must exist here now. So i took the exist and thats where the fun began. Squeezing in the alleys between buildings and having to GOAL everytime i made a turn because of double parked cars. A random guy showed me the way back to 278 and told me to ignore the signs and keep going.

 

How about a 99.5k frac pump. Got on with a company a few weeks ago moving mostly frac equipment and some cement around sw pa, oh, and wv. I thought doing food service in nyc was sketchy but no this takes the cake. Some of those places around jane lew are pretty scary. Top it off with almost a 100k gross with a baby isx12 the jake is almost non existent.

OMG!!! Jumping on the brake pouring blue. Radio bursts to life hammer it you stupid *&^% newbie, add a foot to [many bad words] and that was my education part one.

Part two. Arch bridge on 222 north of Lancaster. 10 feet I think is in lane. But if you take over the middle of that whole road and shoot it at 60 never mind who is coming.... yeehaw. That radio is important. 5 of us shot it at once. Cars? Eh. They know the game and stayed out of way.

 

Back to the 58k roads. Call the consignee. You are not the only truck to deliver to him over some fantasy signs about weights. Usually the words "except local delivery" apply, but signage not there.
Call your operations people/broker and make sure they understand your situation. Take names and phone numbers. Consignee probably knows the only legal way in and out.
If you are really thorough, call the local sheriffs dept, again take names. Want more protection? Have the consignee fax you a statement that he is responsible for any overweight fines incurred.
After making direct site deliveries for 40 years I have passed road limit signs mucho times, no issues. DO NOT TAKE THE SAME LIBERTY WITH BRIDGES.
I live near a steel mill and an industrial park near New Carlisle IN. If all the "No Truck" signs were strictly observed, about 5 major industrial businesses could not get any freight in or out. Of course they are never enforced, just a hyperactive local road supervisor trying to calm down the old lady in the 2nd house from the corner.

 

Was he sitting in a wheel chair at the bottom of the ramp. Did he charge $18.50 to take you on a tour of downtown Manhattan. Not that I would know......

 

i never had that problem as i never had to make such deliveries. however, that IS exactly what you are trying to do, make a delivery. i have seen MANY "no trucks" signs, but they add the wording, "except for deliveries".

you are not going to be running up and down that road for fun, you a re trying to do your job. as someone said, contact the company and ask for help, what was done in the past. then get in, deliver, get out!

i am thinking that even the local PD will know you are only there for a delivery the customer needs

 

Yep, been on that road the whole way, I don't find it too bad, compared to the wells you can find in WV! You want to get on some interesting roads, go to mine shafts we get to go to, one I went to in SE ohio was down in that area, and you had to go back 5 miles on a single lane road, you know it's gonna be interesting when the directions say turn on the road between the white house and red barn! and if you meet someone on the road, there was no place to pull over even a little bit to have someone pass, so someone was backing up the whole way back to either the main road or to the mine shaft driveway!

 

You go to the County tax office and get an overweight permit, valid for how many days you will require it.

 

If that's the only route then you have to go. I used to drive ready mix and we never paid attention to weight signs. They have to build the houses and roads with trucks... thus you're allowed to go there .
