paying worker's comp

$185 seems high. I paid $35 a week in Chicago.

Will you be running your truck or their truck?

touch base with OOIDA, you can get rates closer to what Bean jr and tnevin225 are paying and should you go somewhere else, you take that with you.

 

10% of annual income is roughly what I was quoted for Worker's Comp in California for a truck driver.

Of course, worker's comp varies dramatically from state to state (CA covers everything, while many states exclude things like injuries from horseplay, injuries that occured at work that could have occurred anywhere, etc).

And then you have Occupational Accident insurance which is much much cheaper, but not nearly as comprehensive (very limited benefits, many exclusions, etc)

 

109 a week in Oklahoma, some states you can't buy workers comp on yourself. You need to check it out carefully.

 

Florida doesn't require it. Tell them to go pound salt and get yourself a cheap occupational accident policy.

 

It is against the leasing regs for the carrier to require you to use their insurance

 

That is too much for workmans comp which is required of employers. Something else is going on in the shadows.

I don't know enough about that side of trucking to offer much more opinion or anything. I do follow this thread to see where this goes. 185 is too much each week.
