I hear ya.
Not interested in reefer. The few times I went to c&s and walmart, with food, they were live unloads and wasted hours of my life.
Once I'm up from sleeping, I'm up for a minimum of 16 hrs. I'd be no good at that reefer game.
Made it one year

Yep, I'm paid on percentage and love it. Short local haul for half a day makes the same as a max mile day at Swift. The tariffs in oil are high, so if I look at all miles I run, loaded and empty, I average $0.65 a mile. But only ran 100K miles a year.
Boston, you willing to relocate?BostonTanker Thanks this. -
I tried dry van for a couple of months with an owner op. Was a nightmare at the unload times, and the appt times. I love flatbed because most, not all but most unloads and loads are bankers hoursBostonTanker Thanks this.

Unfortunately not at this time. MRS BTG dad is a nam vet and unfortunately grim reaper is knocking on the door.Lepton1 Thanks this.

For instance, my company had 2 pay profiles, mileage with 2 years exp is 50cpm, percentage at 29%.
The load in on now is billed on 754 miles from Chicago to Rome ny at 1800. My percentage makes me 522, if i was on mileage id get 369.46. I'll take percentage all day longLepton1 and BostonTanker Thank this. -
That works out to 69cpm.
Lepton1 and BostonTanker Thank this. -
Very nice

Percentage is almost always better, if you can get it. OTR, a good driver (Someone with no issues, no tickets, etc) who works his arse off, can make about a max of $80k working for someone else. That's about as good as it gets. And those jobs are rare as hen's teeth. $50k or so is average. $60k is good. Anything more than $60k is outstanding.
I am in the "good" category. The one company I looked at that would give me a significant raise wasa nightmare to work for. Hotseating, fuel solutions written in stone, you name it. I don't need an extra $10k THAT bad.Lepton1 and BostonTanker Thank this. -
Wow.
Ya that fuel solutions thing I can't stand.
During my last run, I tried to play the game a little with werner's routing.
There was a peelot somewhere in Texas.
I stopped there.
55 min just to get to the fuel pump.
No definitely, and forget about taking a shower.
So over an hr wasted just to get fuel.
No thanks.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
At least with Swift I could make a habit of bypassing fuel stops and "reopt" my fuel route. I could also take liberties with the route. That came with experience and trust with the DM.
Now I fuel whenever and wherever I want, and run how and where I want.BostonTanker Thanks this.
