Another vote for McElroy. I had a good experience with them during my first year on the road after getting cdl.
Home every weekend pay ended up averaging .55 cpm with weekend/min run pay.
My favorite stint with them, I lived in NC but went to arkansas /texas to run dedicated out of sheetrock plant. Average run was300-600 miles out, then drop load and deadhead back to the plant to drop and hook a pre-loaded/pre-tarped trailer. Since they couldn't get me home on the weekends from Texas, they added 150.00 to my check each week. I lived in the truck for several months, but It was fun hanging with the other McElroy drivers on the weekends. After a year with them, I had saved enough to make a substantial dent in purchase of my own truck/trailer and I became an OO.
As a company, they did what they said. I didn't like the short runs or sometimes sitting a few hrs during winter waiting on next load to come up on qualcomm, but they did right by me.
edit... You will tarp ALOT with McElroy Truck Lines or MTL or Must Tarp Load lol
I remember tarping shingles one time. lol Shingles
On the plus side, most of their loads are easy to tarp at shippers with tarping machines. As an OO, it is rare that I tarp, but when I do, It may take 10-12 furniture blankets to protect all the edges.

Highway Sailor and chrism1367 Thank this. -
Look into barber trucking out of Brookville Pennsylvania, we're home on weekends.

When running the home on weekends gigs. The time you get home and the time you pull out will all depend on the load you have on your back or the one you are going to get . No matter what kind of freight you are hauling dry van, reefer, flat bed, etc
