Not a bad company to start with Lots of long unload times with no detention pay but overall i've enjoyed working them

 

HI, I answered an internet ad for Stevens Trucking on Monday & got called on Iuesday. Got to talk to a Sr Recruiter Tuesday. Need to talk to his assistant to set things up. Hopefully tomorrow. They are talking about me being in Dallas on 9/08/08. He is a recruiter for Stevens. Had really given up. Was thinking how to last till retirement.
Questions- What do I need to expect. Not too concerned about the physical. Do I get tested on pti, backing & driving? Have my CDLA but school was finished in March no experience since. Just like to hear from someone who's been through it. Know this job is not yet guaranteed. Am a lot more knowledgible since joining this site. Any & all info is appreciated. I just need this first trainee job & getting on the road with a paycheck. I am ready to pay all my dues. Well thanks for being there..

 

I don't know about Stevens I mean this is under Trans Am but have you considered Trans Am? WHole lot shorter training time with more hometime?!

 

What is the length of training time with TransAm?

 

140 to 160 hours in your trainers truck which takes 2 and a half weeks then it takes a week when you get back to the terminal to test out which consists of an open book test a backing test and a road test so total about 3 maybe 4 weeks.

 

I called TRANSAM but was tolg they were not hireing in Florida. Tried for several months after getting my license. Will try again as Stevens was just a BAIT & SWITCH to get me to pay them $6,000 to go to their school to get hired. I have a valid CDLA. I said no. They said theyre sorry but it is company policy for me to be certified. See I didn't get paperwork from either school.

 

If you already have a valid CDL-A license, how much more "certified" can you be?
I could understand them requiring you to go with a trainer for them to be assured of your ability to drive a Big truck, but why go through another school to obtain something (a CDL-A) that you already have?
That sure doesn't make any sense to me.

Also, your last sentence puzzles me. Are you saying that you attended and graduated from a driving school but received no confirmation in writing that you did so? No diploma?

No hiring in Florida? We are one of the companies that always hires out of there but if you have no PROOF you went to a CDL school and passed they won't even talk to you!
