Watkins Shepard is 2 weeks. And you are in a hotel every night. The same room at the same hotel. They have orientation in conover nc and Missoula, MT
Are there companies where I don't have to live with a trainer?

First, I hate the "Not Rocket Science" reference. I always find that so insulting. I was Air Force Academy with my first degree in Nuclear Engineering. Physics has always been very easy to me. Driving a truck, for me, is a much more complex adventure. It uses a different part of my brain. We all have talents that are different from others. Thinking that trucking does not require brains is just a recipe for disaster. The first time you turn right into a parking lot without taking a second to remember that there is a 53 foot trailer behind you, you are going to take out a pole or corner of a building. Yes you don't have to do the math but your brain must do those calculations without delay and get them correctly. Bringing a rig to a complete stop in heavy traffic in an emergency requires your brain to figure out rolling friction problems that are very complexes. You do it in 1.5 seconds or you crash. Back into a dock you are using Trig to figure out what angles to use. The only difference between a trucker and a Rocket Scientist is that if Rockets all blew up tomorrow, truckers would bring new ones to the launch pads.

I wouldn't worry about the trainer. I would be more concern about, sharing a hotel room at orientation with a stranger.
Tac-Lift, Giuseppe Ventolucci and DsquareD Thank this. -
Not always true, myself, got my licence at a cheap school that only taught the minumm to pass the road test. Then got my first job, Day 1, ppwk orientation, Morning of day 2, did some local work in a 379 day cab with another driver, afternoon, put all my stuff in my otr truck, Day 3, sent out alone on a run From Winnipeg, MB to somewhere in SC.Last edited: Jul 7, 2016
