How in the heck does that happen? 2 on 1 joint!?

Has anyone ever experienced a TA doing damage and acting like they didn't or maybe even doing it on purpose to make cash?

I try very hard to only go to my mechanic but he is off my path. This time I was headed far out of town and felt like I should get greased. That is when a young ### TA tech discovered it.

Prior to that I had been to another new to me place....Sylvester truck and tire in Avon Lake Ohio near 611/I90. I went there for a alignment and 2 steer tires. I remember them mentioning that they had greased everything up too.....I didn't think much of it until now.

Unusual to see them broke off like that, unless his gun got stuck and he jerked it off at an angle.

It rarely happens but when it does, either the joint needs to be replaced or a competite mechanic to remove the remains and install new ones, which they will need to be removed to do the job RIGHT!

I am just tad shocked it happened without some known or accidental persuasion.

Especially since it was neither was broken on its previous PM.

    Just strange....

Sometimes new grease gun tips go on tight and don't want to come off; hence prting it off and snapping the zerk

    Mattflat362 Thanks this.

It's not that hard to replace. They are cheap too.

7 or 8 mm if I recall...been a while. My experience has never been one breaking off tho. Just the little ball/one way valve gets tired n won't hold grease in.

I had a Freightliner with a blocked zerk. Replaced it with a standard size one, kept getting the ball broken off, it was too tall to clear the axle and would snap off when you applied the brake. Found a lower profile one. Was good after that.
