Is it economically feasible to run hotshot part time? I have a F350 dually and utility trailer (under 26k) and was picking up random loads on Uship before they kicked me off for not having DOT/MC numbers. When I checked into getting those, the insurance requirements seem cost prohibitive. Came here wondering whether any companies let me lease their operating authority/insurance on a per/use basis, but I doubt it.
Am I missing something, or has the government made it impossible for anyone to be a part time trucker?

You are the reason -
Get legal and run it like a business or don't do it all. Uship and all those jokes sites do nothing but bring rates down and make the industry look bad.flatbedcarrier and roadmap65 Thank this.

Get a DOT number.
FIND loads through either a contract Government or some other very reputable broker.
I know next to nothing about your little ones (Duallys towing hotshots...) but there is enough there for a match to us bigger brethren. Insurance is expensive yes, but so much more stupid not to have it. No better than the illegal coming over here and getting a license on nothing at all. You cannot sue a turlip.
Incorperate a business first before anything. Otherwise if something happens, you stand to lose it all if something does happen and you get sued. Hand over your home and all. -
I see smokeys pulling over 1 tons with trailers all the time in PA. Especially around Carlisle on 81.
Was wondering why until I started looking for the dot/mc numbers were not there. Don't go there.
