Started today at local grocery warehouse. I'm a little worried because I have 0 experience with tractor trailer besides 3 1/2 weeks of school. Couple things I'm concerned about is hooking\unhooking and setting up to dock. As far as hooking, my process would be
1 backup so 5th wheel goes under trailer almost all the way, plate sticking out just a little.
2 roll up landing gear a little bit
3 hook up air lines and elec lines
4 back up till kingpin is fully seated
5 Check 5th wheel handle and kingpin
6 do tug test
7 pre trip
Anything else?
Also tips on setting up to dock would be helpful. I seem to be one of very few of any who don't have experience, I feel like I'm in an uphill battle.
Also at the initial interview I Let them know I have a vacation from Aug 4th to 14th. Kinda feel like I'm a little on the s... list. Feedback is much appreciated thanks

isn't there a driver going with you????????
ask him (or her) for advice/help. from what we tell you here, by the time you get there, how much will you remember???????
as far as vacation time, if that was pre-arranged, well then take it, but i'd give that up and get the job done. not good asking for time off at the interview. unless it was SEVERAL months away, not this sudden!akfisher and austinmike Thank this. -
Just hook up right away, no reason to get out n hook lines up first.
Bob Dobalina, JReding and chrism1367 Thank this. -
I'm with a trainer for 3 weeks or so, forgot to mention that. I feel a little worried about the vacation, but thought that they would say sorry no can't do it. Just kind of had a feeling that I'm being an inconvenience. Just trying to get some input on that.

If you told them you had a vacation planned and they said ok then it shouldn't be a problem. Studies show workers who take vacations are more productive than those who don't.
chrism1367 Thanks this. -
Yeah they had a chance to say no. I just hope I'm not digging myself in a hole. I don't have anything else planned in the future. Thanks for your input

You could always volunteer for an extra run to even things out.

Do not hook up the airlines first. If you have to pull foward to readjust the tractor you can rip them apart.

Be sure that the blinker and light fluid is filled to the right level otherwise they will not work, it's pretty embarrassing taking the truck to the shop to get lights fixed when all that would be avoided checking the light fluid.
dngrous_dime, akfisher, Western flyer and 2 others Thank this. -
The blinker fluid is a sealed unit so we would have to order the whole assembly
akfisher, austinmike and 91B20H8 Thank this.
