    If you want a good under $5k radio, then icom 7300 is a good start, or a flex or Anan (which I like) - all of which is not traditional but sdr or an sdr hybrid.

    Last time to cali was 98..Got a ticket at the scales on my way to donner pass...New binder with just over 6000 miles and dot nailed me for my 5th wheel lock pins not being far enough out...The piston for the pins was maxed out,coulsnt move any further but still got the ticket..Never went back..

    I'd head to DX Engineering, and get an Icom 7100, and an Ameritron 500W mobile amp with the 10/12m mod kit. Then, I'd order a new Scorpion screwdriver antenna.
