The current Camaro actually has a Gen V small block called the LT1 (what?), same as the C7 Corvette. Output is 455hp iirc. Apparently during the LT1 reveal GM made the statement that there will be no more development of the LS series engines.
I'd personally go with the Camaro over the Challenger. The Challenger is a great looking car but I think the Camaro is just a better automobile all around in terms of handling, straight line performance, materials and build quality.
HOWEVER...
I thought i'd never say something like this, but i'd take the new Mustang GT350 with the 500hp flat plane crank V8 over both of em'. Shoot, i'd even take that GT350 over a Hellcat or Z/28.
Camraro or Challenger

Yea but unless you get a brand new ss it is still a ls. The lt is of the same architecture as the ls. I am a gm guy but would take a mustang gt over the camaro ss but I would never take the gt350 over a ls7 powered z28. Dad has a 09 z06 with the ls7 and its a ####ing monster. The 5.2 voodoo flat crank gt350 motor doesn't make half the tq as the ls7
-
Yeah the LS7 is a good argument, i'm an SBC guy myself but the voodoo 5.2 is just friggin' outrageous. Paired with the (finally, imo) attractive new body, independent rear and quality interior all for 60 grand that's one hell of a car for the money.
Now, if we we're talking an LSX454 swap into a C7 Vette i'd take that over pretty much anything. -
I've rode in a gt350 and to compare it to a ls7 equipped vehicle really undermines the ls7
It is brutal -
Based on reliability and resale value....I'd take the Camaro...over the Challenger...also Camaro made in U.S. .....Challenger made in Canada

I saw one of these today, and I liked it
dca and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
I'd take the Challenger as I can fit into it a lot better than the Camaro. Plus it's been my experience that GM parts have always been more expensive than Chrysler parts when something breaks.
-
I'd take the challenger because it's not a Chevy!

The new ones? Both ugly as sin, only place I'd take either is to a compactor
passingthru69 Thanks this. -
Agree,The backends of both cars are ugly.
