I'm not sure why it's done this way. I think you only have so much time to cross. I can promise you there won't be a 72 hour wait, just call the CBP office and ask if it's cleared to be exported.

The last 2 Genie Lifts (Terex) I took into Ontario Terex sent the required paperwork to Export Control. It's a US side thing not Canada and as such your Canadian Import Broker does not handle that. If your hauling for Genie (Terex) you should be able to find out from them if they have already submitted the documents to Export Control.

    OK. Big thank you guys.
That makes sense now why the customs broker wouldn't handle it.
It's going from a United rentals in the U.S to a United rentals in Ontario. Funny that they knew nothing about this either.
I just had no idea what to send at first and where to send it.

I just talked with the U.S border agent in I Falls. He told me I submitted everything properly but that I can not cross until after 72 hours have passed.

That is the hard part about being a one truck independent.
Every thing is a learning curve. All kinds of different traps to fall in if one isn't careful. I know I'll be a bit gun shy on quick easy machinery loads crossing the border from now on.
Hard to make $ on a load if a guy has to wait 3 days to cross the border.
And the friggen border is only 3 hours away.:violent1:

generally speaking, if it isn't changing owners there shouldn't be a hold on it. We bring plenty of used equipment over and it is usually goes pretty smooth, although you have to cross only between 8-8 M-F at Port Huron, or 8-4 M-F at Lewiston. They will not export vehicles in Detroit or Buffalo
