I just registered my truck under my name in the state of Illinois, and here comes the rules. 1. You must be Illinois CDL holder. 2. You must present 5 proofs of a dress ( driver license, corporation registration which is on my home address as well don't count) only utility bills. And so on. I was wondering if it's the same ######## in another states? For example friend of mine spend one month going to CDL school only to be able to register his five trucks.

Something doesn't sound right about that
How do the big companies buy their plates there then -
My old boss didn't even know how to drive a truck and owned one

I had to do something similar in Indiana, except it wasn't my proofs, they wanted the companies proof of address.

It seems that it is not a problem to own a truck. I had mine for 6 years now , but is always been registered under the motor carrier that I'm driving for. To have it registered and get the plates under your name the required CDL.

I live in IL and have an IL CDL. You can thank our wonderful ex-governor George Ryan for all the hoops you have to jump through now in IL that involves anything trucking. Taking kickbacks, selling CDL's to illegals, etc. Everything changed after that
skinnytrucker Thanks this. -
What if you own a tractor as a hobby vehicle and don't drive it commercially? How do people register massive RVs with no CDL?
-
#### got real tight after that

Don't know about the Rv's.If they require CDL to be driven then maybe the same story. I speaking from my own experience. Last night check the state requirements online, and they asking for 4 proofs of adress and driver license and corporations documents DOES count. However I was told different in person, and took me a whole week to gather the paperwork. Also I was told that this is only for first time applicants just to get you into the system.
