So I just had an interview with UPS Freight and was told they start at .43 cpm and go to.47 cpm after 1 year. Top was .60 cpm after 4 years and hourly pay was $26 hr. They had hardly an extra runs for the extra board position they are hiring for union job. I'm just kinda blown away that they pay less than Saia and Estes. I mean Reddaway pays kinda low but not much worse than that. I guess people might be enticed by having a pension. It was weird that they only had 11 line runs and 2 extra drivers 1 of which was the position being filled.
Just thought I'd share my mind blowing experience today. I honestly thought these guys made serious bank. Maybe just feeder drivers? I know the truckload isn't union and the pay isn't phenomenal over there but wow.

Well, they DO pay phenomenal----1) Eventually, or 2) immediately if you're willing to put in the hours. Trust me on that.

i don't have time to get into it now---very busy. Will update my UPS freight diary asap.

Now IF you have a kid or a few kids, a mortgage and a car payment or two then YES, you might think about going somewhere else because the first 2-3 years may be rough.

But after you make top pay..............we got drivers here who are driving Cadillacs and Lincolns like it's no big deal. Several local guys have made OVER 100k. Not too shabby for a home every night weekends completely off gig.

I would like to get me a job with FedEx or UPS but if it's going to take me 3-4 years to eat, then I pass.

I'm here to make money NOW !

Reddaway isn't too bad, I might look at Saia as an option. Fedex said they would call me at the end of the month but I know it would be a lot of dock work. Reddaway is pretty laid back and free health insurance doesn't hurt.

Working for Reddaway is like being your own boss in a way. You have so much freedom (at least in my terminal that's how it is). Pay is decent, with all the OT you can make a decent monthly income. Free insurance is what I like the most. I heard top out next year is going to be $4-5 bucks more than what it is right now.

If the Union is correct and we make $4 more dollas, I'll stop looking at other companies and possibly retire here. I've got the route I always wanted, all my customers are cool and my house is only ten minutes away from the terminal. I guess I got lucky with this job but when I see my buddy from FedEx driving around town I wonder if I could one day wear those colors !

I wonder how that will affect the non union terminals pay.

You got Union where you are? The drivers that come help to our terminal from other places tell me they have no Union and the start pay for them is $1 buck less than our terminal. They also don't offer sign on bonuses, which we do here. ($2,000)

If I was one of them I'd be pissed off

I'm out of Reno and we are not union, neither is Sacramento or Denver. A lot of us are not union. I know we can't get paid more than what the union guys are getting.

We have a Reno guy helping out here for a couple of weeks. Is your yard were the 3,000.000 mile guy is located?

Say hello to Sylvester and David for me !
I know this other old guy, bold headed with glasses that is also from that terminal but forgot his name...

The thing that sucks about Union is their initiation fees, it's like $500. I already paid $750 this year and need to call and ask why they took that money from my previous checks

Hmm that's not cool. I just went down to Benecia last week and helped out down there. I'm glad we don't pay union dues but we lose a lot of work to other companies. ITS takes a lot of our freight and then sometimes we go a week or so with out work.
