WiseOne's Comments, sigh...just another step where Mexico is slowly taking America while we sit back and watch...and, of course, do nothing.

This is wrong and should be stopped immediately.. They should suffer huge fines for accepting anything other then the American Dollar...
cinjade28, The Challenger, Cybergal and 1 other person Thank this. -
I agree...although they HAVE already been doing it in other places, this should be stopped. IF I get a Peso given to me for change, someone is going to hear some VERY strong words and it may very well end up some poor clerk's butt. The Challenger and cinjade28 Thank this.

Illegal immigration aside, why is this wrong? Almost every other country will take USD for payment, and most other types of currency as well so what's the big deal if they will accept pesos?
-
Accepting the peso in American stores has nothing to do with illegal immigration. Is this any different that accepting Canadian dollars as payment here in the States?
-
When I first went into Canada, I was shocked and surprised to find out I could use my US dollars. They're certainly well within their rights to only accept their own currency.
But I tell you what. If I pay for something and get change back in pesos, I WILL be demanding free stuff!
-
who accepts Canadian money in the US? i know they don't here in Indiana.
-
Granted, I don't think any store should be able to give you foreign currency back as change unless you payed in that currency, but it is well within their right to accept payment in foreign currency.
I only brought up illegal immigration because it is an emotional issue and I figure some people would be against this because of it. If northern states accepted canadian dollars, do you think this would be an issue? -
With the way curincies change almost daily I dont see how they can keep up with the changes.

I do believe there is a law (not positive)
Coinage Act of 1965
Congress made the law on money. US currency will be used for debts within the US.
There is, however, no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services.
No wording mentioned if it is legal or not to accept foreign money but only states the government will only recognize DOLLAR...
Now what's wrong with it? Counterfeiting for one.. This leaves a big hole for people to take advantage of this... Drug cartels would flood the US with counterfeit peso.....
The fact that somebody would have to pay for that exchange equipment.. Sure isn't going to be the stores pocket but the customer's pocket.. The way America is right now with pleasing everybody else but AMERICANS we would be stuck with the bill to set up such an infrastructure to except foreign money.. So, there are plenty of issues with it.. Simply let them exchange it at the proper place when entering the country... WE Americans already do enough for border countries this is just something else we would be accomindating them for..
