7/70 8/80 rule

If your doing a log when you leave that 100 mile radius you're good.
You still need a reset to get going again on that 8th day... So for example if you work mon-fri locally and work 12 hours a day. Have 34 off and your good to go on the Monday. If you go out of town 1 day that's is more then 100 miles just run a log that day.

A 34-hour reset is not required ever however once your hours are maxed out you cannot drive until you have hours available although you are still able to work Beyond those 80 hours as many hours as you choose.
Technically you can work a hundred hours a week no problem you just can't drive Beyond 70 hours

 

Explain how your going to fill out your log if your out on a route for more the. 12 hours and you come back to the yard and work to unload etc... That's all "on duty" time legally...

If you're working for a company and want to work on Monday after a long week you #### well better have a 34 hour reset

 

Even without a reset you gain hours each day.
Even if you only gained 3 hours tomorrow that would determine how long you are able to drive tomorrow.
When I started driving there was no such thing as a 34-hour reset.

 

There's nothing illegal about working an 18-hour day. DOT does not regulate how many hours you can work in one day.
Dot only regulates when you can drive

 

On duty is "working" wether on the road or back at your yard..

 

And NO company will be ok with you showing up to work with 3 hours. You'd be fired in a heart beat with any local company

 

I was taught after a Nevada DPS audit that if you go over your 100mi radius and/OR work over 12hrs on duty driving we had to start a log...but we had to do 7 days worth of logs to show compliance. No recap needed, but they wanted prior / post verification of HOS.
We were doing a lot of nite paving & such on Donner pass as well as crazy sand/gravel feeds to plants. No paychecks until all the paperwork was in & correct too!

 

They can't fire you for doing what your dispatcher tells you to do.
