A propane torch works best for me.
Big Duker Thanks this. -
You need a DVD burner and burning software. Nero works pretty well and you can download the trial version for free (works for 15 days I think.) Once you download and install Nero, open it up and find the file you want to burn (The movie) and it's pretty simple from there. Put a blank DVD in and click on "burn dvd." PS, if you want to use it after 15 days, just uninstall it through control panel and then re-install it.

You must convert the video to dvd format.
you can do it here>> http://www.dvdflick.net/
DVDflick is free and will convert any file to dvd! -
If you have a DVD Burner, it came with the Software necessary to burn a DVD, you shouldn't need to D/L and steal additional software.

I D/L a movie its in avi format
i purchased a external dvd writer that came w/ nero free trial version
when i connect the external writer w/ the movie file= avi version, i get a reading saying (operation not allowed on DVD-R sequential recording media (license restriction)
the movie d/l is from utorrent.
does the file need to be converted yet ? -
This is very good free software.

It also allows you to shrink a 7+ GIG DVD To A 4 GIG Disk without noticable loss of quality. My question is why do you want to do that. For a truck application you can play the avi files on a lap top using DivX or Windows media player. They take up less space on a disk. I can get 12 hours worth of avi files on a standard dvd. If I converted and burned them it would take 6 disks.

First of all, if you D/L a movie off bittorrent (or utorrent), you PROBABLY got a "Copy-Protected" avi file.
GOOGLE for "Handbrake" and you may be able to disable the CP
OR, NERO won't allow you to burn a DVD (in DVD format) until you purchase the program and remove all restrictions.
Just pay for the program.
OR, get DVDDecrypter (freeware) That will remove Copy Protection as well.
NOTE: I use "HandBrake". I HAVE NOT used NERO or DVDDecrypter.
I use Roxio Media 10 to burn DVDs -
As you can see from the other post here there are many ways to do these things. I myself burn about 20 movies per week. I prefer to do it the fastest and easiest way. Lots of people use DvdShrink and it will do a good job. however for me it's to time consuming and there is too much of moving this file and that file.
DvdDecrypter is an excellent program that will remove ANY copy protection out there. however it will NOT convert files for you so you need to use another tool to do that. here's what i use...
DvdFlick & IMG Burn (to convert any file to a DVD you can watch in a standard dvd player)
DvdDecrypter to remove copy protection from a disk so you can make a back up disk.
I did use Nero & Roxio but once i used these other ones it was just so much easier so i stuck with those. -
thanks to everyone for their input.
Smurf, your info was very helpful for me and after a few tries i got it figured out and yes those tools you mentioned were the easiest to nav. with out of the others i attempted to use.
thx.
