Electric fan?

    Believe it or not this will over heat your motor faster. I learned this when I was 17 with a hot rod it causes terbulance and no air will actually be moving.

    It will if you don't kick the fan on. I own a street truck and did the conversion. I used a single mustang gt fan, fabbed up the bracket and use a relay on a toggle. Only use the fan in the city. Cleans up the bay. I am truly thinking of doing this to my Peterbilt as well. If it don't work i can always switch back and save the fans for another project down the line.

    I asked someone today who I would consider pretty knowledgeable about the topic as to why they don't run electric fans on truck radiators and he believes it could be due to the thickness of the core and an electric fan would not be able to build enough static pressure to maintain cooling throughout the entire core. In other words it cant pull the air through the radiator fast enough to cool it. Suppose it wouldn't matter how many you had on there if that's the case. Makes sense to me I guess.

    Running both fans made it worse in both of my cases. I tried with and without a shroud and both push and pull setups I quit screwing around and just ran electric and it stayed cool. That being said I wouldn't want to run Efans on my truck I made a living with when it fails you cant stick a bolt in an efan and make it solid until you can get home.

    Yep that's gonna be a worry. Especially since i replaced the stock radiator with a 4 core a few years back.

    To recap so far. I have personally seen this set up in a big tow truck, which is designed to do more than the typical over the road truck. However he stayed in his local area so no big hills, and his radiator has more surface area than mine.

    Also i have found a company that makes a conversion kit for big trucks, but only for engines rated up to 400 hp.

    I'm going to keep looking, if i don't find a kit by winter i will make a new shroud and make my own kit. I figure winter is the best tune to experiment with it. If i can keep the temp down to 185 on a long pull, fully loaded, in winter, it shouldn't get higher than 210 on the same pull with the same weight in summer.

    Rated at 515 currently. 600 is easily achievable if i would stop being so lazy. That's just a cam and injectors.
