I'm new to heavy haul hauled a lot of farm equipment in the valley I'm still learning a lot about the big leagues the new job I took has me moving a lot of excators around the bay area all the way from a 35 to a 290 with drill stick I'm still trying to learn weights and things I pull a hydraulic tail for the smaller stuff and a 16 tire cozad for the heavier things just want to make sure I'm not overweight and when I need to spread my axles things like that don't want to get pulled over

I assume you mean SF bay area. 290s should keep you in bonus purple weight. Read your annual permit & attachments carefully. Then read them again noting the weight/width restrictions on the routes you will be on. Memorize it. Fremont scales used to be real @#%$#&- *@@##@$.

I also haul construction equipment throughout the bay area for the last 11 years. In general I usually open the trailer 10 wide for all excavators( that are over 30 tons), some loaders, dozers, etc. Trying to get the trailer open is super hard. If you have a blow out on one of the inside tires and are loaded. Once you are over 80,000 pounds you are on your state and county blanket permits. I've hauled machines that where 70k and 8 ft wide. Been stopped at all the scales to show my permit and have never been asked why the trailer is opened. So depending on the type of truck( wheel base, front axel rating, weight of the truck and trailer etc. The truck I just bought is a set back peterbilt with 22k front, 46k rears and 195 inch wheel base. I can scale out 92k with our murray 16 tire. 65k with our 8 tire murray trailer. The easiest way to scale equipment is to know exactly how much pressure on your air bags in relationship to weight on drive axels . Meaning 80 pounds on air bags is 46,725 pounds on your drive axels. Slide fith wheel as far as you can, hit your 80 pounds on air bags and chain down and go. Should not have to worry about the over loading the trailer until you get into the 85-90k range. My seven axel I can scale 115k plus. On paper I can get 22k, 46,725, 58k and 60k. The problem with a 7 axel is you will never get the weight on the truck like a 16 tire trailer. We'll I guess you can, but the machine would probably be almost on the long jeep neck. Then your super tall !!! Take care and happy hauling.

Yup pretty much like that. Our 7 has a 28ft deck so the tracks are just past the bumper on the jeep to make weight. The long deck is great( can flat deck 100k before I have to run it up on the neck). The only downside is getting around corners and getting into jobsite!!! I would much rather pull our landoll lol.
