Possibly fuel pump on backside of air compressor. More likely an injector.

If diesel is getting into the oil, I don't know how the injectors play here. School me please.

The electronic solenoid on the injector is attached to the nozzle assembly by 4 screws and sealed with a square o ring. Sometimes the screws loosen, but more likely it is the o ring. Common issue with advanced age.

Where is the oil coming from, going to? We are talking about a diesel engine right?

I have basic knowledge of engines. Went to school years ago for heavy equipment mechanic, but Im seriously lost in the woods here. I've forgotten so much since I never used the knowledge in 8-10 years.

Fuel leaking from solenoid sealing o ring mixing with oil under valve cover. Solenoid is visible between valves. Under valve cover is where mixing takes place. Easy diagnostics are to (1) supply shop air to fuel rail before head and watch all injectors. (2) pour dye into fuel tanks and use UV light pointed at injectors.

Been awhile since working on a 318 lol. But on my N14 , I had two injector seats cracked. That dumped fuel into oil. Then after that still got fuel in oil. Ended up being fuel pump. My two cents check easy stuff first.

I would have settled for a cracked crank. our N14 had 1.7 million miles on if and had just made appointment to get an in frame. on the way to the shop the crank melted to the block. now we have a brand new n14. very expensive. the original motor had never had anything done to it except injectors.
