I am a fellow trucker moving from Georgia to my true home, California.
Im figuring i can take i40 for the majority of the way then at Flagstaff drop south to i10 to go into california.
For argument sake, im headed to Temecula, which is southern most part of Riverside county before hitting San Diego off i15.
I am driving my personal old vehicle that is a ford focus wagon 2002.
Yea don't need to say it but the good Lord blessed me with what i could afford at the time and i own it. But im trying to find the cheapest route because the cheapest means less uphill and im trying to drive on flat as much as possible and downhill as much as possible.
Yea ill be going California truck speed cross country with the heat on and windows down lol.
So can anyone help because i did drives recently out of California taking i10 and i40 but didnt pay attention to how it would be going west and not east. I hope i get a run soon to cali.
Moving first week of August this year in 2016.
Never found a FedEx contractor that might be out of Temecula or San Diego to work for so ill end up trying to live in Temecula so i can be fairly close to my children in north san diego and not too far from city of industry in cali.
All help is appreciated and i know the joksters will always say things.
God bless you all out there on the road and be safe.
Which is cheapest route?

Dont know where in Georgia your starting from, Atlanta to Temecula via I 20 - I 10 is 2180 miles. It's the best route for speed and time by what Google says. 40 is kinda a stretch to go that route.
Lepton1 and sdsurfer77 Thank this. -
I agree, if leaving from Atlanta, take I20 to I10. If leaving from south Ga, take I10 all the way across unless you are leaving from Columbus?

Ok im leaving from La Fayette, Ga that is almost to chattanooga.
I agree if i left from Atlanta also. But my parent's house in La Fayette, Ga is where im leaving from and that is way up northwest georgia and its about 30 miles south of Chattanooga, Tn -
I40 to I15 south out of L.A.

I do have a Marine Corps. Buddy in Oklahoma off i40 that i thought about visiting on the way and stopping at Santa Rosa, NM for a swim at the Blue Hole spring.
But ensuring my car takes the easiest route may be the smartest thing. Ive recently driven i20 west and east and only remember in Louisiana the roads are super rough but my memory escapes which mountain pass is easiest on my car to go into cali from -

I haven't been out there in a while but that will probably be the coolest route. Its a little hilly after you get to Albuquerque and on in to Ca. Maybe some of the other drivers know a better route or a cut through?

You're going to have 3 climbs on 40 ... up to Nashville in TN. Albuquerque in NM and Flagstaff in AZ. You have a 4th climb in CA to get up to the desert out of the Colorado river basin. But that is unavoidable.
Your flattest route from Chattanooga is 59 down to the 10.Lepton1 and sdsurfer77 Thank this. -
If you decide to not see your buddy, I 59 is just west of La Fayette in Alabama. Run to I59 go south to I20, turn west and boogie down.
I'd say 40 is a big waste of time, unless your stopping for friends and swimming. It's farther north from La Fayette than I 20 is south of you. Not to mention the hills on 40, okie and Texas will be your only flat ride on 40. I haven't ran 10 or 20 all the way, but they can't be ad hilly as 40.
How bad off is your car, that you have to plan around hills?Last edited: Jul 21, 2016
