He's would have to go over Mounteagle to get to the 40 in Nashville. The 59 is downhill all the way to Meridian.

Heat vs very little elevation change. I choose elevation change. 40 all the way to 15 in cali. Shower if ya want at truck stops. But get gasoline somewhere close at a Chevron/Texaco, Shell, ARCO, Valero, or Mobile station. I use gas buddy when traveling via automobile to work out cheap good fueling places.

FlyingJ/PIlot and Loves fuel sucks. You will get a couple better mpg sticking with top tier gas.

If you stop in Santa Rosa I had better luck with gas mileage from the Phillips 66 fuel than shell from the TA. The blue hole isn't all that spectacular. Stay away from the indian fuel plaza's in Oklahoma and NM. If ya do I 40 stop off at the first exit into Cali and go to the Pirate Bay resort. Swim in the Colorado and enjoy the scenery in bikini's.

Peaceetrucking route is good. Flat and good roads. If you go 40 to 15south you'll have to cross thru LA all the way down from Barstow, not a good idea. Also Flagstaff is 6,800' elevation, and it sounds like your car won't appreciate the lift. 10 has mountains, mostly after Palm Springs. So once you head south on the 215, it's clear sailing down to Temecula. I used to frame roof structures there, it's hotter than hell.

You drive the Focus with the heater on across the southern desert? I did that once, weak radiator, but it was not fun. I think I'd plan my trip thru/around LA for early morning hours, or after 10pm. Be careful of Baton Rouge, a true cluster at anything resembling peak periods.

MM, I've been hearing drivers say their big rigs get better fuel economy using TAP diesel fuel - does that fit in with your comment? Thx

Very good reminder on filling up on gas. I just put some b12 chem.... To my gas today and filled up at costco so its top tier gas. Elevation will be hard on my car for climbing. Heat is hard as i mentioned my car may need to sit for hours to cool
