Going home will not help keep a truck from smelling. Only cleaning it once in a while will do that. If a person won't clean themselves and their truck on a regular basis it will smell. If they do clean regularly, it won't smell. Pretty simple really.
How long can I stay out on the road?

Oh you'll basically never get home unless you make noise about it if you're OTR. They want the trucks out there moving loads, not snoozing at home.

I think it's the sleep smell that permeates your bed cover, pillow, and blanket that makes a truck smell bad. Washing the bed gear once a week is not always an option.Candy_girl and Giuseppe Ventolucci Thank this.

I do. Also, when it's time to change them, pull the sheets off in the morning, spray mattress liberally with fabreze. It'll dry by bedtime. Then remake the bed. The only excuse for not cleaning your truck and your bedding and your butt, is lazy slovenly behavior. Yes, drivers do get stuck from time to time missing a shower, due to schedules getting messed up. But in general, cleanliness isn't too hard. There is no excuse for a filthy stinky truck. None what so ever.rl928, j_martell, tommymonza and 1 other person Thank this.

yeah all the companies that give weekends off are just trying to make it sound good when it's just a recap.

Vinegar does wonders for odor elimination. Double use as disinfecting cleaner. Way cheaper. The vinegar smell is gone when dried.

I've met guys who used the company address as their physical address. You need a physical address somewhere for tax purposes...preferably in a state with a favorable tax environment like TX, WA, NH, AK, NV

You can always stay out as long as you like. Most companies would love someone who never goes home. That said when I was otr I could only go like six weeks before I needed break.

I haven't been home since I left for orientation the 2nd week of April. Won't be back there until Sept when I need to back for jury duty.

I do laundry every week without fail and that includes my bedding. There are very few truck stops I have been to that don't have laundry facilities.
I clean the interior of truck at least twice a week which involves wiping down all the interior surfaces, seats and the floor with a simple green type cleanser.
I can do my truck (a condo Cascadia) in 30 mins. There is no way any truck driver can claim they don't get an hour spare every week.MrEd Thanks this.
