But we're talking about a private business accepting pesos, not the entire USA. The credit cards you have in your pocket work in other countries and the european equivilents work in the USA. Software in point of sale registers are able to keep up with exchange rates and most banks will accept foreign currency (at least the ones near the border do). So nothing that affects you or me has to change to allow this. And the fact that this has been going on for years proves it. This whole thread is about a companys new policy to accept pesos in all their stores, not replacing the dollar with the peso.
So, if we still pay for our products and services the same way, the only thing left to complain about is the fact that people don't WANT the peso in the US, but the fact is, the peso is already here. It always has been here. You just never saw it.

No you are wrong a lot would have to change for this to happen.. We are not talking about banks taking peso's we are talking about stores, we are not talking about credit cards being used we are talking about actual peso being used.. Much would be needed for this to occur.. Have you been to Mexico? most places have to break out a calculator and exchange American dollar to peso, far as that goes Canada is the same way when you spend the dollar up there, they break out a calculator to find out your change..
Americans (sorry but this is true) are to lazy to figure with a calculator and most of our lovely teenagers coming out of school would get it wrong in the first place, So we would need to have software (THAT IS NOT ALREADY PRESENT IN STORES) to accommodate this.. Stores will not let that cost come out of their pockets it would be passed onto the consumer as all cost increases are..
Again we are not talking about "banks", that is where foreigners should go to exchange their foreign money to get American money, so I don't even know why you brought that up?????? that is where they are supposed to go, we are talking about going to the local walmart and be able to spend peso..... that's where it would cost Americans money to set up a system...
Plus it makes it easier for illegals to enter the country if they are able to spend peso, one less stop they would have to make is all....Last edited: Aug 20, 2008

See, I knew it would come backto illegal immigration.

We're not talking about Walmart. We're talking about a store that already takes pesos. How does this affect you? If they raise prices, just don't shop there. No where has anyone said anything about making it mandatory that stores take any other currency, it is up to the company whether they do it or not and it is not illegal. -
No it didn't come to illegal immigration, that is just a true point... Really you was the one that brought up illegal immigration in your first post.. i was just proving a point...
You should know how things work in America.. once one is allowed to the rest think they should as well.. perfect example is labeling on products.. Almost all comes in Spanish now.. who pays for that accept print? the consumer.. America is English and the dollar and it should stay that way.... We already have giving them way to much already and now we are supposed to expert Paso as well? People who think as such don't see the big picture, they only see why would this "one" thing hurt.. Its not just this one thing its an accumulative effect that becomes harmful... keep on accommodating Foreigners and its going to be harmful... look outside the box for once... You sure your not a ACLU activist? -
WTH, this wrong as others have mentioned and they should be fined. But their close to Mexico so what else should we expect. Not being rude but why would they accept pesos?

This is a private business. If they want to accept pesos or sand dollars they should have that choice. The government does not need to stick their noses in private businesses any more than it already has. I as the consumer have the choice of patronizing that business or not depending on my personal beliefs.

Businesses along the border with Canada have been accepting Canadian dollars as payment for decades.
-
I think were the only country that doesn't accept foreign currency other than from Canada...
-
You would be hard pressed to find a business in Michigan that will take Canadian money... not saying there isn't but very rare..
The current international finance architecture is based on the US dollar, that is why most all countries take the dollar... We basically set it up for the world... (wonder who paid for most of it?)
Private business does have the right to take chickens for compensation if they would like.. But when it comes to banking/money that is federally regulated...
Lets look at this because this has been mentioned several times...
I agree we do have a right to shop where we want.. Example: at one point in time there was many places you could go and get what you wanted without buying a product that you needed that wasn't made in China, Japan, India ext..... A product that was made right here in America was available on the shelve and was not that hard to find... Now what has happened? It is almost impossible to find a product that I want that was made right here in America by Americans. Maybe some will get the relation of that story to the topic but I am sure the ones who support the peso being allowed here in America probably will never get it...
Just remember that video where the Mexican store in America was flying the Mexican flag over the American flag...........Last edited: Aug 20, 2008

OK, first, I didn't start the immigration argument, I just knew it was going to go in that direction since it is such an emotional issue.
Second, putting spanish on product labels is not a requirment in this country, however, if those products are sold in Mexico or South America, putting spanish on the label is required and how does a company save money? Put both languages on the same label so they don't have to print two different labels for the same product. Or are we supposed to make english a requirement in spanish speaking countries as well? Take a look at Europe. Most labels on products over there have english, german, french and italian on them because they are sold in countries that speak those languages.
Third, companies along borders have been accepting their neighbor's currencies for longer than I've been alive. It's not illegal or immoral. Companies limit their imcome by not accepting this money.
Fourth, I am not an activist or a member of the ACLU. I have a theory about you, however. How hard was it to get internet in your cabin in the mountains near your militia compound? And how is your manifesto coming?
