I asked about tuner because that Tarheel will not autotune to your rig. Of course the yaesu atas 100 will auto tune to the yaesu rig. I'm running the ft857d with the atas120a. If I go with a non atas screwdriver I will need to manually adjust the screwdriver or use a tuner, right?

Actually Ameritron makes one that adapts any screwdriver to a yeasu using the cat interface for auto tune? So you can use a tar heal or scorpion or what ever.

I have the FT857D. I'm mostly on 40m with an ATAS_120. I another technician class rig under the bunk. I haven't found a good place to mount the rig permanently yet. 20m is very noisy for me and I haven't hear a soul on 6 or 10.

That could be your all-in-one radio.
Mark only charges a hundred bucks to do the conversion and give you the killer audio on that particular radio along with the killer receive

I am curious as to how many run an HF rig? I have a Yeasu FT857 that I am eager to install. I enjoy the 6 meter bands mostly.

KB0ZOR 146.52, I have 6m on radio but no antenna for that band.

Because the squelch won't open on a signal that wide. Most "golden screwdriver" specials are unintelligible anyway, so I don't want to hear them.
