I went by a stepdeck on a two laner one day... I'll admit I didn't get the best look at it but on his deck he had an excavator about the width of his deck and three straps over the tracks... I don't know if there was any more securement than that but I definitely saw three straps straight over the tracks...

Funny you should mention that as there is actually one of those going north on I5 with in a few miles of where this happened. I just don't remember if its north or south of where this happened. Lol

The problem with this is that the people that cannot read the existing signs and hit bridges will still hit them only there will be a flashing light now. Drivers like this one need to be restricted to pulling vans. You need to have a little common sense when you pull loads like this one. Has he/she never seen an excavator going down the road before? I guess they never paid attention to how they were loaded.

If they pull freight for cheap, how can they PAY attention?

Paying attention to how someone else loads a excavator would mean they would have to quit looking at their phone, or Break concentration of the phone call talking to the woman in the next state.....?? Just saying that might be a possibility.:)

It doesn't matter if the read the signs, if you don't measure your load.

A lot of driver also don't consider the bounce in the trailer either. What is a 14'8" high load can quickly become 14'10" or higher just by hitting a bump at speed.
