Lol, Yea I know all about the starting point. Brokers that post the freight rate are saying one of two things.
    1. The price is so good that there proud to post it and need to move it.
    2. The price is what they want to move it for, and they don't want to answer a lot of phone calls. Most likely the broker is not making much on those loads.

Corp 3pl firms are making millions off the industry, it's all public information through the state registry.

Yes that I understand .I also know at times when those guys that pick up brokered loads from your customer get a better rate then direct haul guys are getting..never thought of sitting on a phone and calling brokers on numerous different loads just to see what there first offer was going to be

Yes brokers can and do pay a LOT more than what direct contract guys are getting, SOMETIMES. But as you probably know most of the time they don't because they don't have to. Steady direct to the truck will beat brokered rates every time over the long term. The hit and miss scoring big ones is a lot of effort and gets tiresome. There is something to be said for consistency and not having to play those rascally broker games to book a load.

This customer I am referring to, will not pay anymore than their set rates, I've tried as well as some other independents to get them to up the rate for some of their trouble lanes, they won't budge.

Ok I wasn't trying to cause an argument on here first of all.I ask a question to a poster that said brokers were keeping more then $250 how do you find out how much there keeping is what I ask.Which I had a couple give answers to a question I didn't ask telling about a rate not what they were keeping.I haven't run a broker load in over 2years.Do brokers make good money yes I'm sure a lot do some of the most profitable transportation co.dont own any trucks,ch Roberson, landstar and so on.A good salesman can almost write his own ticket .A broker will almost always be a better negotiater then a trucker because that's what they do all day everyday. But to say don't use is not realistic for a lot of carries.Ive used very good brokers he was a small broker in my area had a good relationship with large ones to get back who weren't so good.most guys will do better to worry about what they need then to worry about what a broker is keeping.

Call it what you want to call it. I appreciate the fact I've been able to get some sort of info from the inside. If anyone is SHADY, its these brokers cutting rates. Its greed! Period

Well I'm not the brokers advocate here. But this is the game truckers vs brokers has been there for as long as I've been doing this. Were all here to make money. And learning how freight rates work can help some. Were all in a service industry.Supply and demand more trucks less loads broker makes $ so that $1750 load he can move for$1000 .Tomorrow more loads then trucks he may only make $50 on that same load.

SO, HOW DO WE DO THIS...how do we avoid these type of brokers? I am new on the road and I do see that these loads are eating us up, very low pay, and yes, as you found out the broker is taking more than 50% of that load...how can this change?
