is there money to be made (good money) with a CDL with out having to drive OTR and being away from home for weeks ?? If so what are some of those options ? Being away from home for a while isn't a problem for me I'm gonna do it when I get hired but I was just wondering ! Thanks !

OTR makes you more money if you live in the truck and have no bills to pay. You'll be making bank in no time.
Local you go check by check if you have a family. Usually local companies require experience , not always but most likely you'll have to put in your time doing OTR for at least a year.
There's money, just not what some people expect... -
I was making around 50k with my other job. When I quit and went to trucking even my trainer told me I was dumb for leaving that job. Every driver I met told me pretty much the same thing that first year.
I'm making more now, but putting in a lot of OT hours. Just depends how much you make now vs how much you expect to make trucking... -
You really aint gonna make "good money". Your gonna work 70 hrs a week for a paycheck. Yes, a few people do good, but most are living week to week. These companies are begging for drivers but they dont want to pay didley squat.

If you want to get rich, better go to a Garden Party. lol

You can make good money driving local, but it's hard to get there. Every rookie has to pay their dues going otr. There are ways around it, but you'd make for money flipping burgers. At my best local job, I was working 40-50hrs in 6 days and was grossing 55+k a year. When you start, for the first 2 years you can't be really picky on where you work. If you stay ticket/accident clean and work for same company for 2 years, you can be picky then.

Some food service companies would have you home almost every day. Some of those hire drivers with only a cdl permit. You may not see this on the websites, but it's a fact.

Lol that's so not true.
Although I've only had a year of "legal" experience, I am far far far from a rookie to this industry.
You couldn't pay me enough to go OTR. Not even a 6 figure salary would be enough for me to throw away my life doing that garbage.
The key is local companies, man. Stay away from the mega carriers and all the drama that goes with them.lagbrosdetmi, sevenmph, 1johnb and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think it depends a lot on location.
Otherwise, you usually have to pay your dues doing OTR, but sometimes people get lucky and find a local gig. -
So, by being OTR I'm "throwing my life away" and "doing this garbage". You might want to come down off your high horse the next time you a)walk into a building - even your home...b)buy anything, including your food.....c)eat anything you didn't grow yourself.
ALL of these things were brought to you in your snotty little world by.....yep, otr drivers.
I'd love to see a YouTube video of you walking around a truckstop relating how you feel about OTR drivers......Lepton1, 4mer trucker, Puppage and 1 other person Thank this.
