I'm thinking about going to Roehl Transport's CDL School to get my CDL License. There CDL School contract is you have to drive for them for 15 months. If in 6 months I realize OTR isn't for me and I try getting a local driving job with a different company. Would Roehl verify that I worked for them for 6 months when the company I applied to contacts them? I heard some companies won't verify you worked for them if you're still under contract with them.

If Roehl won't verify I worked for them if I break the contract, does anyone know what companies will verify you worked for them even if you're still under contract with them?

I think the bigger problem would be the money you'll have to pay back for schooling if you don't honor the contract.

I don't mind paying the money back. I think it's $3500. It's what I'd pay if I went to a private trucking school. I just don't want to waste 6 months OTR, then realize I can't do anything with it if I try getting a local job cause OTR isn't for me.

That may have happened to somebody at one time, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal for them to not verify your employment. I wouldn't worry about that. Go for it.

If you decide to leave before your contact expires just give notice and let them know that you intend to go local but will pay back what you owe. If you set up a payment plan and hold up your end of the bargain it shouldn't be a problem. It is just business.

It’s $5000 if you do not complete the 15 months after going to their CDL School. $3500 is what they charge for those who go to them with a CDL already but have no experience and do not complete 75,000 miles.

I did this with Central Refrigerated but I only ran 3 months and left for South East Region. I owed them for the training but they verified my experience they will not release my diploma for graduation. But most companies don't care if you don't have your diploma they just need experience verified. Hope this help with your decision to start driving.

Op, why not just stick it out the 15 months? It will be a good experience and will look much better on your resume. Where do you live? You might be able to get a local or dedicated job with roehl after completing your training.

Put your location on your profile.
Even if a company won't verify your employment, you still have pay stubs and W-2 forms to prove it.

Now I have heard of this happening. In fact, a similar thing happened to me. The school I went to wouldn't release the diploma until they were paid in full. But it didn't matter in my case. The diploma was just a fancy piece of paper. They still verified that I attended and graduated from the school, and nobody cared about seeing the actual piece of paper. I have never showed it to a single employer.
