My almost-new 2009 Cascadia (w/ Series 60) was running LIKE TOTAL FRUSTRATING CRAP during on-road regens at slow speeds (in traffic, in truck stops, shippers etc). Lots of HEST (high exhaust system temperature) warnings, lots of sputtering, rpms jumping all over, etc.
At highway speeds and not during on-road regen, the truck ran okay. FOR SEVEN WHOLE YEARS (MILEAGE 85,000 THROUGH 860,000) I TRIED TO GET MECHANICS TO FIGURE THIS OUT, but no one had any idea, and truck would not run like crap anywhere near a shop, and no one was interested in my descriptions of how it ran bad. Ran the overhead twice, everyone said engine was fine. Finally, this summer (2016), I got lucky, and by chance, it did run like crap as the mechanic was taking it into the shop, and he determined it needed all 6 new injectors. NOW, truck runs 95% better - it still sounds a little strange during on-road regens (minor bogging and weird clicking), but this does not seem to affect performance. Fewer HESTs, which only last a second or two, and from what I understand these are normal once in a while at lower speeds. So the problem seems to be fixed, at least for now....
Here are my questions:
(1) If injectors were bad, why would they act bad ONLY during on-road regens??? THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. Injectors were fine otherwise to the extent that even hooking the engine up to the computer several times revealed no problems!
(2) Can EGR/Regen-ing cause injectors to go bad?? It cost a lot of money for new injectors, and since the truck had bad injectors at only 85,000 miles (???) I’m concerned that something might be causing them to go bad early. Of course the dealer could not tell me WHY they needed to be replaced, only that they needed to be replaced. Anyway I'm concerned about EGR causing weird pressure changes in the engine that crawl up to affect injectors....is this even possible?
(4) Anyone else with a 2009 Cascadia and Detroit 60 Series....when the truck does an on-road regen, it is noticeable to you?
Cause of Cascadia EGR problems...bad injectors? HUH?

Did you ever pull your imap, egr delta, dpf eelta sensors and clean them out? These sensors get carbon soot and start tell engine wrong readings and cause more regens. Also if did not replace your doser injector if its plugged it also causes frequent regens. Sticking egr valve makes more soot and causes more regens. If you had injector problems(clogged or leaking) or CAC leaks engine makes more smoke and plugs your dpf faster.

At this point with my brand new injectors the truck runs great....I’m just concerned because from what I can tell the injectors were already bad when I got the truck when it had only 85,000 miles on it! This makes me wonder if some OTHER problem that hasn’t been resolved yet fried the injectors so early in the game. If so, I worry that my new injectors could get fried again. You see, I don’t really know anything about injectors and what could have fried them....or, maybe they were just bad to begin with out of the factory, like many other things on this truck I’ve had to fix.
I know it’s complicated.... You see, before I got new injectors, the truck ran like crap during on-road regens. Now, the truck runs fine, but still during on-road regens it sounds just a little “different.” MAYBE THIS IS NORMAL, cuz like I said it runs fine now...who knows. I ask myself, is it possible for EGR to screw up injectors? -
All 09s are pos.... Your lucky it's running at all.

I could tell with my 2010 DD15 when it was having a active regen, pulled slower, boost was low during regen also.

The reason they have issues is they tried putting emissions on an engine that wasn't designed for an exhaust restriction. I love the pre emission series 60, I however do hate the DD platform. It's just a Mercedes engine with Detroit's name on it for sales here.

the politicians also need to know that the human body wasn't designed to be inside a truck that shuts down in the middle of the freeway and gets rear-ended by a-hole super trucker not minding his assured clear distance -
