I agree. I am very strict on companies living up to their agreements. I am OTR, that means I make money with big miles, therefore, I will not run your regional freight because 300 miles a day means I have no point in being out here, plus, if I wanted regional I would do it out of Houston and not wherever I happen to be at the time.

They hired me to be an OTR driver and my pay structure is set up for that. They said OTR and I said yes so live up to it.

I see what you all are saying completely. I have 140k miles under my belt with his company since Sept 2015, like I said I run hard, I can work five days a week's and still make good money. I make .45 a mile and it's good pay but again promises are worth more than any amount of money I can be offered. I do have a good record and have had offers but I also don't want to be a job hopper and try and give him a chance but it seems I have exhausted that option here.

Truckers hop all the time for better conditions. No one would think less of you.

I'll do it for $0.45/ mile. Tell your boss to call me, and turn in your truck.

The guy I like to run with plans everyone out for 2 weeks. You have to give 3 weeks written notice of your home time dates. Were home for a 34 on the weekend, so it's more like just some days off. But if you don't give the 3 weeks notice, on said home time form, he will run you until die.
In your case, you need to start expanding your range. " What's the latest you can be home?" You need to start to tell him 12 or 24 hours before you actually need to be there. You just gotta beat him at his own game. Instead of needing 2 days off, tell him you need 3, you'll get 2 and everyone will be happy.

Really though man, I hope your not smoking in my truck.

Just leave on good terms. Find some company close to ATL with good freight lanes.

It was a sore spot. But ya know time heals all wounds.

Those of you with family tend to them, one day they will be over the river beyond.

Many here stated that you should hold your boss to promises, it's been my experience making ultimatums to a fleet boss is a losing deal. Don't do it without being prepared to attend orientation the following week, just be careful out there.

I learned to run hard far from home for months, it suited me just as well because the United States was my home. Some folks find that hard to understand.

If you leave I'd wait until September so you'll have a solid year with this company. Will look better on the resume. Best of luck to you.

    Family first...
I would stay until September like the above post...
In the meantime start checking into some local LTL companies, maybe run some line haul if you can handle the 3rd watch or some p&d around Atlanta
It's important to be home everyday when you have family, your wife & kids need you more than your boss needs you
.... Finish this job and leave on a good note
... This gives you some time to look at some prime local jobs there in Atlanta so you can be home everyday for your family
Here's a few options at LTL frt
    .... Estes
    .... Usf Holland
    .... Yrc
    .... Saila
    .... R&L
    ... ABF
    ... Conway
All these companies will start you off at around $20 an hr & benifits
But the best part is coming home at the end of the day to your loved ones everyday and taking the family out for dinner on a Saturday night
.... Not to mention the good lord would like to be your friend & partner in raising your family also, & you are the high priest of your home
.... Myself I don't make a ton of $ but nonetheless I'm a rich man because I have my family and I have a great partner helping me lead my flock to along still waters & green pastors tho it's not always peaches & cream, I have a high tower to run to when things get rough
... I think you're doing the right thing by being up front & honest with your boss but OTR has a nasty habit of keeping you out longer than you want to be when you have a family , there's no way to get out of that or slim at best
    ...hope this will encourage you

I can't remember the name but you also have Kroger and the company that hauls dedicated for them. Don't know which part of Atlanta you live in but you also have Publix's in Austell and Dacula.

    GA-TRUCKER Thanks this.

I'm going down to the DMV and get my CDLs so I can join an industry that's known for long stints away from home. Then I'm going to hook up with a company that promises home time every other weekend. When things change at the company and I'm no longer sitting at home with my feet up by 1700 on Friday until 0800 on Monday, I'm coming here and letting the company have it!

Is that OK with you all?

    Mike2633 Thanks this.
