I have been on this NE , Mid Atlantic route for three years now . For the most part I have done ok , but for the last 6 months or, so it's sucked. I always have to take a hit coming out of the NE , plus tolls , and traffic , = no rest . I have been looking at going south , no further than GA , and then back up , no futher , than Central PA . Any suggestions ????
It's time for a new route

I am in a similar situation. Up until,.. yeah,.. about 6 months ago,.. I had a nice sweet loop I ran,.. mostly PA and NJ,.. short miles, high rates. Some NY, Ma, Md, and Va mixed in. Averaged 1800 - 2000 mi a week. Really easy and casual. I knew where to be and who to call.
Not only are the rates down,.. but the volume of available loads just isnt there any more. Now I am experimenting with different lanes. Getting mixed results.
I read a few articles that say when the Elog mandate goes live,.. they predict that it should bring rates back up. I hope they are right. I've put buying another truck on hold until I feel more comfortable. I will survive this or cash out and do something else before I let myself go broke.

Like Hurst said it's shorts miles but if your negotiation skills are solid those short miles can make big bucks with that pickle and water run.
freight-time Thanks this.
